tyres are the BIGGEST thing round this track, i was running very very good part worns on my car, took grip of back to try not to kill tyres fast, but alas i was getting on avarage 3-5 full skid laps, but then i was going nearly balls out and have fair bit of power, so for anyone worried u would easily make a ok set of tyres last a session or more, but for the more experienced skidders tyres will go fast, but the SMOKE/SPEED makes up for it lol

Just chatting about this and I reckon its worth making a point of the fact that this is 15minute CONTINUOUS sessions. At a normal skid day with one lap wonders you spend at least 10-15 minutes queueing for every one lap you do. Although understandable due to the small venues, I don't like the way skid days and comps are run with only perhaps 1 minutes seat time for 10-15mins of queueing and only one or if you are lucky 2 laps of a track.
Lots of peole seem to think 8 15minutes sessions is not much track time for the money but I reckon its actually more than most practice days. I reckon the average Lydd (kart track) practice I get about 20 or 30 runs give or take a few, they don't last any more than a minute or two so thats around 1 hours max actual seat time for the average practice day and you only get to do one or two laps at a time. This Lydden hill day has 2 hours and each session is 15mins continuous.
The only place you might get more track time is somewhere like Pod thats not even a track anyway. Its so hard to get proper tracks to support skidding, we need to make it happen. Drifting wont get taken seriously by the motor sports industry until we're skidding real race tracks at high speeds

There isn't much of a saving doing that, my new tyres are only £40 a pop and once you take into account tyre changing, and the fact it needs to be done more often on part worns, it doesn't make much difference in cost, it's more about the rate the car burns rubber which affects money LOL and that's what means i have to pick where and when i test the car more carefully.

Either way, Liam has already dealt with my questions, so it's a moot point. If I had the cash I'd be there.

No-one said it's a lack of time. I actually said I'd prefer half as much track time if we could split into beginners and advanced so we could make the most of the time available and be balls to the wall every corner. NONE of the drivers at our demo there was able to make a single set of tyres last more than 10 mins so the timing isn't an issue. I was talking about what happens when someone has an off and the track gets closed to rescue them, you should know all about that dave

Rest assured, if i can find some money, I'll be there in seconds. I'll have a word with Alex at K-Drift as he seems to want to test at Lydd mid-July and it would be far more useful to do a few sessions at Lydden as it's got more in common with Wembley Hopefully I'll see you all there

How often will these events run???

ie. i probably cant afford this one due to the short amount of time before hand but would be well up for one in August / September / October / November / all of the above etc etc

Is this just going to be a one-off / tester? What happens if you dont get the 24 places you need? What are the plans for the future?

Thanks

Pmsl i wasn't referring to your comments ugly, go back to your GT5 (and then lend it to me). I was referring to quite a few people I've spoke to who havn't posted on this thread. Lots of people seem to think its not much track time for double the price of the average skiddy practice day. I reckon its actually more seat time than most practice days plus its on a real race track and not cone dodging on airfields or slow drifting on kart tracks. IMO this is a big step up for UK drifting and as a community we should do everything we can to make it happen. The more real tracks that start to run drift practice days then the better we'll get as drivers, and its an opportunity that shouldn't be missed as it would probably take a long time to find a track willing to give it a go again.

In answer to how often these events will be run, that will depend on how it goes to start with. If we get the numbers and everybody really thinks it's worth it then we will run them continuously. Obviously if they don't then there is no point. Lydden and the team is very keen to help and work with the drift scene so we would like to see this suceed for everyones benefits.

Anyway back to topic, so far we have two names down?? I really need to know ASAP.

To book please call Lydden on 01304 830557 or go to Lyddenhill Racing Circuit

Thanks

worth pointing out, this is very short notice tbh. i dont think youll see the numbers youd like as people need at least a months notice to gather tyres, raise money etc.
id definelty be up for regulary attending this, as im sure many others would, but prob wont be able to make this one.

Just caught this thread up. reading ppl views, i basically am going to say "this track is amazing and fresh for the drift community, so lets go skid!!"

i been waiting for this to come up after the bhp show and i went out on track, and MrNick, myself and other drifters got black flag for skidding, and i admit i was gutted that i was getting told of for skidding the track, but looking back at it was for good reason, involving track safety and the safety of the fellow grip racers on track..... so i'm more then up for this practice day, and resect the lydden hill's staffs efforts to make there track a place for drifters

.. my names on the list!

Ian waddington ( mr2 )
Steve biagioni ( baggsy340 )
Brad McQueen (Brads14)
