    SR20 wiring need help

I have the engine on the car for 3 weeks now and I am stuck having big wiring issues. I have been searching the web for weeks but could not find the answer so I decided to try here.
I have a 1989 s13 ex CA18 and now an '96 SR20 from s14. The ECU I have is from S14a. I have no NATS. My loom is most likely from S14, many connectors missing, no connector for the MAF yet. I wired everything according to the S14a Ecu pinout attched.
. How many pins should the CPS have? How about the CAS? In the CAS , on the car I have 4 wires but in the scheme there are 5 and it says CPS. - I cannot find the CAS in there, just CPS
    - in the Power Transistor Unit I have no tension at the 1, 3, 5, 25 pins, same for 106.
I am from Romania, new to this, working on my car for a year now and still haven't got the chance to enjoy it yet.
    Thank you for your help!

The 14a ecu won't work with a 14 loom, the pins are in different locations.

The cas has 4 wires, you should be able to trace it from the ecu pins.

Thanks man. That sucks. More time and money...
I will start looking for an S14a loom on this forum. Currently the engine is turning on ignition but there is no spark. I feel I am so close

you can adapt s14 loom for s14a ecu but i can't see the point of doing that. just get the s14 ecu with nats1, its pretty hard to get rid of nats2 from s14a ecu.

Hmm, what's your ecu numbers? Just noticed your ecu connector is blue, most 14a connectors are white. Worth checking before ordering new stuff. Oh and I wouldn't keep the 14a loom because of the nats2 system.

Also to add, your cas wiring, you should have 4 wires, a black, another black, a white, and a black with a white stripe

    Thank you for your help.

My ECU says: A18 F42 G64, 23710 82F05. You are right, the ECU connector is blue.
When I bought my loom it said " s14 non nats loom", my engine is supposed to be 1996 from s14. (non s14a)

When i starded putting it all toghether I realised that I had a CA18 ECU and no SR20 ECU. I only one I could find here in Romania was this S14A ECU.

Hmm, your ecu checks out as a s14a one, just ive never come across a blue plug s14a ecu lol.

Id look into repairing your loom and seeing if it works.

Thank you Norfy! Right now you are all I have.

Do you think that my loom could be made to work with this ECU? I have no nats and no keys also. My electrician followed the ECU pinout I listed above and he says that something not right, that It wont' work. I am not sure that igntor chip works, any idea on how to test it?
Also, the knock sensor has no signal says my electrician.

Would be easyer and safer for me to buy another s14 Ecu + loom? If I find sellers willing to send to Romania...

Don't worry about buying a ecu just jet, think it'll be better to repair your loom firstly and see if it works just incase that 14a ecu shares the connector layout of a 14 one.

Your first issue is that your using a s14a ECCS diagram against your s14 loom, you need to be using a s14 diagram. I bet if you count the amount of pins against that 14a diagram you'll have more. Try it.

Secondly you need to wire up your cas and afm.

The knock sensor is under the inlet manifold, check its fitted. If so, follow the able up to its two pin connector and make sure it's connected to the ECCS loom.

What exactly did your electrician say?

There's no point testing the power transistor unit until you've fixed the cas issue, the cas tells it when to fire (via the ecu).

Norfy, the s14 diagram has a lot more pins you are right, I also worked on that one a bit but I chose the s14a diagram beacuse of the plug. Both my ecu and loom have the exact plug as the one i show you on my first post. Could you give me a link for the diagram you mean? Is there a way of me to know kind of loom I have?
How could i wire everything according to a s14 ecu pinout?

My CAS was wired up since the beginning. The AFM is not connected because i assumed that my engine will start without it. The loom did not even have a connector for the AFM, i will have to cut it off the CA18 loom and add it.
Also, the solenoid valve has no connector yet. I should do the same: take a connector from my old CA18 loom and stick it to the new loom. Could these two unconnected things prevent my engine from starting?
    Thank you again

Actually right now I do not have any vacuum lines installed at all. No connector in my loom for the O2 sensor.

You can use this conversion guide for the wiring diagrams. You'll have to check how many pins the ecu has and work from that diagram, the amount of pins on the ecu connector will tell you if it's a s14 or s14a loom.

The engine will start without the afm connected, same with the O2 sensor

Are you getting a spark when the engine is cranked? If not take one of the coilpack connectors and check the white wire for 12v ignition feed, and the black for earth.

You do however need those vac lines connected or at least blanked off.

    What conversion guide?
This I don't understand: "You'll have to check how many pins the ecu has and work from that diagram, the amount of pins on the ecu connector will tell you if it's a s14 or s14a loom. " I selected the s14a ecu pinout from my first post by counting the pins in the connector. The S14 one has a lot more pins. How can i work on another diagram if there are more pins in the diagram than in reality. If the loom fits (big connector) my s14a ECU that means that the loom is from s14a right? So they should work together?

I don't have spark when engine is cranked. My problem starts before the coilpacks at the ignitor chip. I only have ground coming into the ignitor chip, no 12v.

I tried John Bennett conversion guides but still dont have spark. What should I buy? Another ECU? Another loom? ECU+ loom?

that's because your ignitor isn't supposed to get power, it gets only ground signals from the ECU which he amplifies and pulses to the corresponding coil, your coil packs need to get power on the middle pin , trace that wire from the coil pack harness plug and wire it to an ignition 12v power supply.

also the coil pack harness has a eyelet connector that should be bolted to the head, and the ignitor has 2 sides one with 4pins one with 5pins that 5th wire should be ground.

After printing a few wiring pages from the S14 manual and with your help I managed to start it today. It stayed of for a few secs, seemed to me like it was revving up and then died. I did this for a few times. It always died in seconds but not always revved up on his own.
My electrician said that it would be best to wait for the mechanic before we try again.
The MAF is now connected but not the solenoid valve and no vaccum hoses at all.

I did not put any plugs here and after puting my hand i felt a little sucction. Should I put plugs on those two holes? Do you recognize the noise coming from my engine?

probably NATS cutting the fuel pump but not sure tbh, connect everything, blank all the vac lines or install them and try again

do you have fuel pressure? have you removed the CAS recently?

at least is a step forward you fixed the spark issue, what was the problem?
