    Decided to get back into RC cars after a ten year break.

    I used to race for fun at my local club but now i fancy taking it up again, mainly touring and drift...

    Searched eBay and stumbled upon an old favourite, so brought it.

    Its a Tamiya TL-01;

    Also snapped up some tuning bits that made a huge difference with my old one;

    Lightweight carbon gear shafts;

    Speed tuned gear set;
    [IMG]

    Full ball race set;

    Got a backup chassis to for cheap as the other had seen better days;

    Next on the cards will be shock/springs, sway-bars and a carbon prop shaft...

    Comes with a naff body but my mate sent me a link to these beauties

    Looks good man, look forward to seeing it finished. The TT-01 is a great chassis. Currently using one myself on my first RC drift car. Might make a little project thread on it actually. :D

    Thanks man, been looking into handling issues, apparently theyre real unstable at high speed due to front wheel caster. Done a little research and found you can change the front C hub carriers with the TB01 items which help big time...

    Standard castor on the front makes it real nervous at high speed;

    New castor with TB01 C hubs;

    Need slight trimming to work and get full lock, also need to shorten the track rods by 1mm.

    Just finished the rebuild, new chassis, speed tuned gears, bearings and carbon gear shafts :)

    And just ordered some sway-bars

    Very nice, very nice. Any clues on what shell you are going to have?
    Yeah they are quite unstable at high speed with standard caster, It should have a lot more feel with the TB items on it. I noticed the uprated shocks you got there, did they come with the caster kit? Or you get them separate.

    Oh and with the trimming for more lock there isn't much point from my experience I trimmed where the ball joints hit the lower arms. Cut away so there was about a 2mm gap and I cant tell that I have any more lock I took pics before and after aswell. I think its probs only worthwhile if you cut away the hubs, I might try it, Ill let you know how I get on :)

    I am going for a JZA80 Supra, 200mm body so need to run with a 5mm offset to bring it to a 200mm wheelbase.

    Its not really a castor kit, just the OE carriers from the TB01. The car with those shocks isnt mine, just an example pic of the castor mod.
    I did find some cool alloy parts for the TL01 on this link though which had similar shocks;

    Nice little project :) Keep us posted!

    I am about to start work on a drifting TL01, had built one a while ago but then turned it into a racer for this winter’s indoor carpet racing season. So I’ve bought yet another TL01! (I really like this super simple chassis) and I plan to drift it this summer :D

    Oh man, my first ever RC was a TL-01 chassis. Used to spend all of my pocket-money on 'hop-ups'. Brings back memories looking at this build!
