Driving experience?

When you ask what car we've driven for the past year do you check in any way?

Well, its sounds abit bait

Like if Ollie says they dont then you might ring up for a quote saying youve been driving a Ferrari Enzo for the last 2 years or something

Slightly exagerated but yeah I see where you're coming from.

The problem is ive tried getting a quote for a liner and, after ringing them for the 2nd time because the first guy didnt ring me back, I was told they couldnt quote me because I hadnt had the car or similar for the past year. I was told this was due to experience, even though the year before I had a 300zx and a 300+bhp 200sx. I understand where they are coming from to a degree but if there is no way of checking I dont know why they ask and why someone couldnt just "bend" the truth slightly.

I thought that an accusation of intent to defraud might be offensive

I can see why you would think that but it would be rather foolish as I havent expressed any intent to do such a thing

i dont see how this is a stupid question ...
he's merely asking that if insurance companies ask you what you had before for "experience" purposes and they can't check then whats the point in asking the question. and if you said a skyline they wouldnt know you were lying. whats the point in even asking the question.

Maybe they want to 'trust' that their customer wouldn't lie to them?

That they'd want to offer a more competitive deal to someone who had been driving highperformance cars for a while?

As opposed to someone driving around in a mini/punto for a while, then upgrading to something juicy, and telling the insurance company to trust them because they have been driving hardcore motors for years.

Its just the usual thing surely? they might not check you're 'standard, honest guvnor' motor didn't have 1200bhp under the bonnet but if it came to a claim they'd examine things further and then if you were lying your insurance would be void and you'd be up shit creek without a paddle. Its your judgement I guess?

Well, they aren't going to believe him now after all of this, and I also wonder if he knows all of the insurance companies share information with each other?

Worth realising this IS a public forum, and I KNOW insurance companies read here, as I had trouble with the last practice day because of it.
