Roll cage material Im about to build a roll cage into my 200, but i cant find anywhere that has CDS mild steel local to me. I assume that i must use seamless steel but after reading the Prodrift Europe rules im confused about their wording. It reads: "Bolt in or fully welded Cages may be manufactured from seamless T45/T40 Chromoly, or Mild steel tubing (minimum wall thickness diameter 2mil)" Does that mean it has to be seamless chromoly or standard seamed mild steel thats 2mm thick? I can get the seamed stuff no problem thats why im asking. Also if anyone can tell me where i can get CDS Mild steel in Northern Ireland that would be great.

No it has to be CDS regardless of the material, it means "seamless: t45/t40 chromoly or mild steel". Not sure on sources but there is a steel index somewhere which should list a number of steel mills and contact details for you to ask around.

Theres no local cage builders as far as im aware. Although there is a huge rally scene here, but from what i can gather most people just buy there cages from safety devices or omp etc... To get the steel shipped from england just seems silly, thanks for the offer though i may still take it up. Surely there is someone in Northern Ireland thats has bought their steel here, I have a few more places to call tomorrow to see if they have it so hopefully i can turn something up there.

If you have any luck finding someone who can supply tubing and/or make a cage somewhere local, please let me know! I was going to buy a 6 point dash-dodger, but then thought why spend nearly 500 snoops on something that isn't approved for most competitions. There is a chap down the road from me who does a lot of rally car prep who I can ask tomorrow. Which series do you want to enter (if any)? I'd love to get into Pro Drift IRL, but don't have the skills, plus the events are all so far away. We deffo need more places in the North to at least practice (ref. the thread about venues in Ireland) as I'm really not down with the idea of learning streeto style.Haven't been to Bishopscourt for a long time, but the last day I was there did not make me want to join them. Lots of really rough motors and not much discipline or organisation. Maybe it's different now.

I have found one company that do seamless steel here however its neither annealed or cold drawn, its a hot finish. I assume this is of no use for roll cages then? It looks like im going to have to get it from England. I cant believe no one in this country does the stuff! ![]()

Can anyone clarify for me if its ok to use hot finish seamless steel for a roll cage? On the Prodrift site it simply says it must be seamless mild steel with a minimum if 2mm thickness. I know on the EDC rules it states that CDS must be used, is prodrift the same? I can get the hot finish stuff for £5.50 a meter, and the mates just texted me to say hes found somewhere that does the cds for £20 a meter, needless to say thats a serious price difference. How does that compare to english prices?
