I have an electrical cut out to the battery, when this is isolated the engine continues to run ???

is it just a switch in the battery positive wire? as if so then it will continue to run, you need to wire it also to the ignition wires by the key barrel if that makes sense

Or you can cut the power to the ECU, or you can cut the feed from the alternator.

there is no key barrel, and I have tried to disconnect the main wire to key barrel wiring, but still the engine runs..
