| www.manfoot.in ![]() | Quick bit of internet research brings up : 11-27-2006, 09:55 PM They are different. 1985: RealOEM.COM BMW E28 535i DRIVE SHAFT (SWIVEL JOINT) 1986: RealOEM.COM BMW E28 535i DRIVE SHAFT (SWIVEL JOINT) The 260 and 265 also have very different shifter mechanisms: 1985 (265):RealOEM.COM BMW E28 535i GEARBOX SHIFTING PART 1986 (260): RealOEM.COM BMW E28 535i GEARBOX SHIFTING PART E28 history But i've found nothing to suggest they won't be interchangable. Both were fitted to same models/engine. |

| Flame On!!!! ![]() ![]() ![]() | Hmm I've just read something that says they use different length driveshafts but I thought they were the same. I'm gonna stick with my original statement that they fit exactly the same, 265 isn't dogleg Ant it's just a different code box. I think the americans are confusing really old school 265s, I'm sure there's a later 265 too. As long as it has the same alloy gear selector support bar thing then I'm sure it'll fit. | Flame On!!!! ![]() ![]() ![]() | By the way I tried to ring you a little while ago gaz. ![]() Erm if it wasn't a "do or die" situation I'd say no, what prop is mike using? 265 is listed as the E30 M3 box too, so in that case if he's using an E30 M3 prop, common sense would say no. Also E30 props should have a sliding section to accomodate differences in box length. Ask him what the gear selector on the back looks like, if it's the usual split pin holding on an alloy rod with the gearstick in the rear in a cup then it's the right box and will fit. If it's got a stupid big triangular shaped support flapping around on the back then I'd not be confident at all. |

| But the e28 box you had was a dogleg one ant, the normal e28 boxes are different IIRC as they are the same as 525i/528i etc? So perhaps that box is the same length as a 265. Not sure what linkage is on the box Gaz will have to find out when he gets to the breakers in about an hour. |

| Just checking some random but intellectual looking forum post, it seems that the very early overdrive 265 boxes and the dogleg "sport" 265 boxes were both longer than the 260, but it seems the conventional 265 is the same dimensions. I never directly swapped my 265 for a 260/5 but I juggled engines which were fitted with both and they always seemed to be the same sort of box. Hopefully all will work out and I'll have a bit of trivia for us all. Anyone know how to rebuild a 260 gearbox? |

| I'll probs take it apart just to have a look if it's definately toast, if I can. Never looked inside a gearbox before! I feel useless for being stuck at work when my boyo's are running around fixing my car for me Hope we get it sorted! |
