S13 head on S14 SR20 block

Me and my m8 were talking today and are curious. Does anyone know if an s13 head will bolt onto an s14 sr20 block. It may sound silly but the reason i ask is because the S14 Sr that he wants comes with the VVT.. is there anything accompanying the VVT head, that would make the S13 head not function correctly? Thnx.

The VVT has a different timing chain cover - the head will fit but the studs and water passages but the vvt stuff will be left flapping about in the open.

The job gets more tricky as you replace more parts.

Why doesnt he want VVT?

Theres no such thing as an S14 Red top. All S14s had black top VVT engines.

Amen.

I'm fairly sure you can turn the VVT off on a PFC if you want to. Or just pull the solenoid I guess.

hey mate ive done some research. It is possible to put the s13 non vvt head on a sr with vvt. you are gonna have to block the oil passage for the vvt in the block. One write up says the s13 non vvt headgasket is enough to block it, but i would recommend getting the passage welded. hope this helps and clears up some questions
