S14a krashu - advice please

Morning. It’s not been a good weekend for a friend of mine. While on his way to the DIY store to get a hose to clean his car, he hit a patch of oil/diesel, and the next thing he knew, he’s had some unwanted modifications to the front of his S14a. Before anyone pipes up, this is not a drift related accident (the chap doesn't drift at all, just has an S14 as a daily driver) - it was just one of those unfortunate incidents that happen from time to time through normal driving.

Anyway, the damage is considerable. The panels etc, they’re not really an issue as they can be replaced easily enough (see my thread in the wanted section regarding this) however as you’ll see from the photos, there’s substantial damage to the driver’s side chassis arm, the slam panel/crash structure, and some damage to the passenger side chassis arm.

We stripped down the majority of the front end yesterday to assess the damage, and what I’m really after here is someone’s appraisal of how easily this can be repaired/replaced and a ballpark of what kind of sum might be involved in getting it done. Also, if anyone here has the facilities and expertise to get this sorted to a decent standard, we’d be interested in hearing from you.

Anyway, I’ll let the pictures speak for themselves (sorry they’re a bit on the big side)

Any advice or opinions would be greatly appreciated.

Chris

Why not just reshell it.

SXOC Bulletin Board

i bet you could knock this fella down on the price a bit, plus you'll probably end up with £50s worth of scrap metal and £500 worth or other parts you could sell on.

Probably cheaper than gettting it repaired.

Yeah, that's not a terrible idea, and I might suggest it. I know that my mate would be hoping to save his current shell as much as possible though as he made a point of hunting out as mint a 2000 plate S14a touring as he could find, and this red one is in lovely condition (well, it was)

thats frick all! just pull out and put a front pannel in it!

mine was a load worse than that

with a second hand pannel,

once the front pannel is of everything is pretty floppy and will pull easy!

Is pulling it out a DIY job? I thought it'd all need to be spot on or else the body panels wouldn't line up?

Hi All

Hi,

As Chris mentioned above, it was his mates car (me).

Any help from anyone would be really much appreciated. I havent had the car long and was hoping to learn a lot more about it, whilst forging some good relationships with some other owners/enthusiasts anyway.

What I wasnt expecting was to be forced to learn more about it through re-building the thing!!

Im a very sad man this morning, I know these things happen but it doesnt help. Ive been onto the council and have logged a complaint about the road surface, as its coming up, polished, and covered in diesel.

To me looks like it needs the inner wing panel as well as a front panel. Send some pics to little knocks and get a quote for fixing it?

Does anyone have the correct measurement for the distance between the two chassis rails at the front? This is probably the thing I'm most worried about.

Yeah in MK. Not sure if Kev's still reading this but if you wanted to have a look I'm sure that wouldn't be a problem. Drop me a PM or something.

Hi mate,

As I said I was hoping to forge some relationships with other owners anyway, so if even to meet you and say Hi it would be great to have someone elses opinion on it.

Feel free to come round and look.

I'll leave you to organise that with Chris though as I wont be about on here too much I shouldn't think! That is if I can get my concentration back on 'Work related issues'.

All of the structure at the front, is this the same on the S14 and the S14a? Just looking at donor cars for the front end, if we can find an S14 we can cut the front off, rather than an S14, are all the parts interchangeable i.e. the arms, turrets, slam panel etc

you only need a front pannel and at the worst a tiny bit of the inner wing!

The battery tray has been pushed back into the inner arch, annoyingly. The Passenger side looks like it can be bent out easily enough but I think the driver's side will need a little more surgery than that.

Just if we can source more than we need, then at least we won't find that we're missing something.

But they're the same behind the panels anyway aren't they?
