16 that will stretch for clearance? - Drifting forum

I've got 16's 8j on my car. 215 40 16's , 205 45 16's fit ok but 205 50 16's catch a little and 205 55 16 are just a no goer and as these are the easiest for me to get hold of cheaply and the 40 / 45 profiles a lot harder to come by in any numbers I'm thinking would a 195 50 16 stretch on and clear ok? or any other common size thats easy to come by out there that will sit on the rims ok without catching. I don't really want to change the rims or modify the wheel arches at he moment as I'm pretty happy with how the car looks, any ideas pls?

195/50/16 is like a wanky size off some gay new car isn't it? Seriously if you are having to reduce your tyre to such small ones then roll the arches or add camber or whatever to make room

Its garaged up about a mile from my house at me Mums

Cambers already an issue, would like to reduce the rear camber if anything, rolling the arches is not going to be easy I think if I want to keep the original 3 door cossy body kit. Would rather carry on using 215/40/16's but they way too rare to find enough for drift days and I'm way too poor to buy them new

You trim the horizontal lip part of the plastic cossie kit so it's pretty much flush, then smooth it off, then roll the metal arch underneath. Reducing rear camber isn't worth it until you're competing if it's going to cause you clearance issues.

Getting pissed off with only using half the tyre though, seems an expensive thing to keep paying for tyre changing at pod just to get the tyres turned to use the other non worn side. would feel better changing them when they are completly worn all over not just on the one side. At the moment it only seems to wear about 60 % of the tyre on the inner edge.

Will take a look at the car this afternoon and see what can be trimmed off

No ideas on anything that will stretch on though that may be a bit more commonly available?

Low profile 16s aren't common as I'm sure you're aware. Common 16" tyre sizes are 205/55/16 and 225/50/16s I've seen some of, nothing much else. Just get 17s or 15s and fit the shims for reduced camber if you want.

Taken a look and I rekon if I do what you suggested with the arch triming i'll have more than enough clearance.

Theres also some pretty fat spacers on the rear (didn't have a ruler handy but at least an inch), I rekon if I drop down a spacer size or machine 5 - 7 mm off depending then there would be no problem any more.

Another good suggestion using 15's Mike, nice and easy to find, I just like the alloys that are on it at the moment but I might start using 15's for practice days. Got some pug ones I was using on the old Sierra but with the spacer and the pug off set I rekon they would be close to scrubbing
