Running Rich and mis-beat - Drifting forum

My RB25DET has abit of problem. It's running rich that doesn't just make the bumer dirty always, the smell makes my girl sick (turbo timer wont stop when she steps in and out eh). Not just that, it's abit embarrassing smelling so bad when I park my car at the mall parking lot and saw other ppl's expressions. The engine also has mis beat. the beat changes every few minutes or seconds. My mechanic is a mate of mine and he is trying to save me money by not looking into it yet. He says my 4" big bore exost and big K&N intake (looked dirty to him becasue it's black) may cause some of it. Speaking to my mate it seems this can be abit of a mission to find out exactly what's causing the problem so he says just drive for a while and see. I have taken the metal K&N filter off and cleaned it, it seemed clean enough. Any suggestions?

dodgy 02 sensor perhaps causing bad running? incorrectly gapped plugs? incorrectly set timing (get base timing with a gun, could be retarded badly

do the basics and go from there mate.
