Difference between Profec B - Profec B Spec2

I currently have a Profec A but wish to upgrade to a Profec B due to the setting up hassles with the "A" model. The Profec B just seems much more straightforward and has a greater user experience on this board (handy for setting up and troubleshooting).

Now upon researching I realise the Profec B comes in two variations:

Profec B
Profec B "Spec2"

It seems the Profec B is just lacking a visual display (so no boost is diplayed etc). I also read the "Spec2" has a "larger capacity inline solenoid valve" but I shouldn't think this is a big deal over the performance of the earlier Profec B.

So should I just go for the profec B seeing as I have a boost gauge already? Or is there more to the "Type2" than a easy to read display and bigger solenoid thingy that warrents the extra 50% odd cost over the older profec B?

Also Would a Profec B controller previously fitted to an Evo work on an SR20DET? Are they car specific or just one size fits all type of item?

Not sure what the difference is between the two Profec-B models but I am pretty sure they're not car specific so the evo one should be fine once setp up right. Did you go the that sxoc RR? How'd the car get on?

Got a nice smooth build to 271bhp at 0.9 bar, the torque followed closley behind until 5200rpm when it suddenly dropped straight down to actuator pressure grrr! Gerry the RR man said I would've got more if it didn't drop boost...we tried fiddling with the little dials but nothing worked.

I knew on the road whenever I floored the pedal the car felt like it was building good power only to feel it "free rev" and drop power at around 5000rpm and this confirmed it. Apart from that Dastek said the engine is performing very nicely, it's just down to the Profec A being a bitch.

Profec A EBCs are "fuzzy logic" type controllers and need fannying about to set up, even then they might not be 100%. Profec B is much better as it doesn't require you to go out and risk your license to set it up. Calibrating the Profec A requires you to max out 3rd and 4th a handful of times.

I think I'll may buy the normal Profec B, a guy is selling one near(ish) to me for £70. It's off an Evo so I just needed to be sure.

There is still an amount of trial and error in setting up the spec 2. You'll still have to do the quick runs to get it right.

Thats true, though I've found the Profec A is a great deal more hassle. I d/l the manual for both and theres a big difference. Better to spend more and get the superior more user friendly product.

The Profec B is what I have. Not hard to use at all.

It has 3 knobs. One for Sharpness, One For low Boost, and one for High Boost.

Pretty much just turn the knob and give it a run to see if it is were you want your boost to be.

iirc

profec b spec one is analog and spec two is digital.

i had a spec two on my fiat coupe, once set up its a good piece of kit!

the spec one is a case of turning knobs but the spec two is a little bit more complex with a menu structure etc etc (being digital)

both simple to use and the spec two is regarded as one of the better controllers on the market.
