LPT's are more like 135bhp iirc, but makes no difference, just the boost levels with the LPT running 4psi and the HPT running 10psi making 165bhp. The sport then had more boost control stuff (think its called turbo plus or something) and that runs 14psi and makes 190ish. Afaik HPT & LPT are the same engine, the later engines having oil squirters and stronger rods and a better gearbox, can't remember what year they changed it but i'll try and find out edit: mid 1994 change from 4 speed + overdrive to stronger M90 5 speed box Also I would have thought same as Hudson's list but I think you can just use the T5 turbo, which is a mitsubishi 16T, think that just goes straight onto the standard manifold and can use standard downpipe, etc edit again: found out a bit more, only forged one's were really early, like 1985 the 850 T5 turbo is a 15G and will go straight on, should be good for about 270ish The 850 T5-R, S70 and V70 T5's used the 16T but they changed something and only certain one's fit, not sure about that though, need to read up if you want to go that route Get yourself on turbobricks, seems the best way to find out more Im sure I read somewhere that a guy on turbobricks made 230bhp with standard everything other than the 16T Last edited by Ali : 11-08-2008 at 10:10.

Right.. I'll try and clear a few things up... No 940's had forged internals, only the B23ET from the early 80's did and they were in the 700 series. With the turbo car's there were a few choices: B200FT = 2.0 turbo, 155bhp at 7.5psi Late 940's from around 1995 onwards had either the LPT or HPT: B230FK = LPT, 135bhp at ~4psi B230FT = HPT 165bhp at ~10psi B230FT with Turbo+ = 190bhp at upto 14psi (strange vacuum solenoid controlled system that gives more boost at high rpm) There are essentially no differences between the LPT and HPT in terms of hardware, it's only the actuator that is different. Get an MBC on either set to 12psi and that should be fine without pinking, giving 180-190bhp. I'd probably go for an LPT as it's less stressed from new. Ofcourse as standard they're all fitted with the measly Mitsubishi 13c turbo... gives a nice fast spool but it's pathetically small. You can reclock some of the FWD Volvo turbos for RWD application, such as the 15g mentioned above but that's still fairly small. I'd go for a 16T or 19T from the later T5 cars. The 16T is similar to a T28 to give some comparison. Pick of the bunch are cars after 1994, low pressure turbo 2.3's. The 5 speed gearbox is strong and far better than the 4 speed plus O/D. However it comes with a dual mass flywheel which is crap and heavy. But you can replace this with the earlier flywheel from a 4 speed plus O/D car assuming that car is equipped with the same management system (ignition reliefs in the flywheel differ) Bosch LH2.4. Might as well get one as late as you can. I've been looking at 96-98 cars myself having bought Bolf's old Wentworth which was an awesome beater ![]() What ya really want is a decent exhaust, 3" from the turbo back, bigger turbo, big ebay intercooler, injectors, Fred chips (Turbobricks), 3" AMM from a 960, and a better cam (the standard T cam sucks!) My 945 turbo daily driver - Turbobricks Forums Have a look at the spec of that to give you some idea Last edited by Steve360 : 12-08-2008 at 17:30.

You have to rotate the turbo housings to line up with the RWD setup in the 940... there's a few threads on turbobricks if you have a search detailing this in depth. You have to make up a bracket for the wastegate but other than that all the cooling/oil lines line up. The 15G is in, lots of pics! - Turbobricks Forums A 15g is possibly a bit small for what you want, but the same would apply to the 16T and 19T turbos. I'm not sure what other turbos will fit but you will probably need to modify the manifold/downpipe if you choose something else. If you're drifting it you'd be best welding the diff too - some cars did come with a locker (usually 2.0T Wentworths) but they only activate below 25mph, although I've heard you can modify the internals to change that! Although I might be teaching a granny to suck eggs there Saying that my old Wentworth went sideways all the bloody time with just an MBC set to 10psi and a bodged drilled airbox ![]() Whilst your at it as you can see from that thread the manifold and housings can benefit from some porting! AMM = Air Mass Meter, so yeah... AFM is the same thing I believe. I'm probably on the hunt for a late 2.3 saloon myself... so if ya see any about that you're not interested in ![]() Last edited by Steve360 : 12-08-2008 at 18:38.
