Ae86 trueno headlight gremlins

Headlights on my trueno have gone loco..

- Main beam always works, and still flips up both lights.

- Dipped is temperemental. Lights only flip every now and again when I use the rotating switch on the dash.

- Today they flip on the rotating switch, but only one light comes on.

Could be a loose connection, or a dodgy relay, but I don't know which ones to have a look at.

Any help much appreciated.

Cheers,

Tom

Your not the only one - I am having issues with mine as well. Got main, but no dipped and I cant figure it out.

If you want to refer to a wiring diagram then look at the AE86 manual on AEU86.org and look at the Wiring loom for the Saudi Arabia AE86 as that one was issued with the Trueno front so shows the headlight wiring differences that the Levin one dosnt.

Have you checked the fuses? Have you checked the bulb to see if its dead? Might also be worth checking the lighting loom to see if you have a dodge connection etc?

See if you can take the switch apart, may be a couple of decades worth of crap built up on the connections inside.

Fuses, bulbs etc. check out. Reckon it's a loose connection.

Fucksticks. I'll just drive around with main beams on.

Have a look at the 3 pin connector that plugs onto the bulb as these get hot and the spades inside expand and become loose. You can buy new plugs in motor factors.

Mine gave me all the same kinds of troubles when I first got it, took the headlights out and removed the 3 pin bulb holders to find they were all filled with crap and mostly burnt out. So bought some new generic ones off the ebay, wired them in and had no problems since.
