200sx nismo diff fitting question

im fitting a nismo 1.5way diff into my 200sx s13.

i have good mechanical knowledge(engine swaps, turbo rebuilds etc)

i have fitted diffs but never an aftermarket one.

ive been told i need to shim out the diff for it to fit correctly,
is this true or do i just need to bolt it in and set the backlash an shit? cheers guys!
by the way its an 89 200sx and the diff i got is an r200.

I can do it properly for you.

It's a long and intricate process to do it properly, with a quite few special tools required and a lot of knowledge and experience.

If you want to just "bolt it in", I can sell you a new gearset for when it all goes wrong and needs to come back out again

Aaah OK lad, fair enough!

It will need shimming if the backlash is out of spec. Spec is 0.13-0.18mm, measured squarely to the drive side of a ring gear tooth.

I normally add equal shim stock to both sides to add preload to the carrier bearings. this makes for a stronger assembly under load.
