info on RX8 engine into an MX5 please

been looking on ebay and seen that rx8 engines are not that expensive so got me thinking an rx8 engine in my mx5 would be awesome .

briefly spoke to Jeff at RE WORX today to find out what would be involved and if he'd be up for doing it for me, he seemed to think engine would go in easy as engine mounts can be made no problem but as long as the steering rack is not in the way, he said no such prob if it was LHD but seeing as my car is RHD I would like to see some UK/JAPAN/AUS/NZ based info.

he's already put an rx8 engine in an FC and he thinks mx5's and FC's might have the same gearbox so wouldn't be a prob, but if it was modifying the bell housing shouldn't be to hard.

main problem he said is getting the engine running as i wouldn't be able to use the RX8 ecu as they're are locked into the imobiliser or something along those lines.

so 2 main points i need answering is

1) would steering rack be in the way ?

2) what ecu could i use ?

so if anyone knows if this has been done and can give me any links to project threads etc that would be awesome

cheers

i looked into it when i was inter-geeking my way around the mx5, apparenly to fit a rx-7 motor it takes quite a bit of cutting and welding, i'm not sure where but i think the info is pretty easy to find. Although it could be completley different with the rx-8 motor. Rover v8's and LS1's go in easy enough mind, i cant see why it wouldnt work.

It will definately fit, so far no one has managed to keep powersteering, and a custom front crossmember is needed, but it would be badass, heres a link to a rotory mx5 build up...
