Yep thats your lambda sensor

Don't just unplug the sesor itself and leave a hole though, that would be bad

As for driving with it unplugged its not going to kill your car but it will probably cause it to run richer.

Did you not say they've already checked the sensor though?

somebody asked there how to clean the afm element....the only thing you should use is electrical contact cleaner.other cleaners can be corrosive and damage the element

I've never had one fail on me but electrical cleaning solvent does sound like a safer idea if it loses the grime

The syptoms seen to be a tell tell sign that its the lambda sensor. Disconnect the sensor and see if this gets rid of the misfire, it wont do any harm only that it will drink more fuel. worth a shot

if it was the lambda sensor at fault,it would struggle to stay an any revs, from 1000 all the way up.not just a problem between 2.5 to 3.try and keep it at 1500,2000 4000 5000 etc.if the problem happens only between 2.5 to 3 then its not your lambda.

Cheers folks

I've been told the car will be ready, all issues fixed and ready to drive on the 27th.

Jurgen is away on holiday and his bro is still working on my car. I should hear back by mid next week and will report the findings then.

Cheers for all the help. I'll keep all this stuff in mind if anything goes wrong in the future.

Incase anyone is interested this is the car:

A bit dirty and big arch gap i know

Thanks again
Jamie

Unhappy update time

Intercooler piping has been checked and no joy.
Compression test is being done tomorrow/sat, and sensors swapped from a working 180.

Am really starting to stress given the array of problems I've had. Seems "we" have been let down by the garage in Japan and I am ending up forking out money on a rebuilt engine I had not planned on having.

hello,

this is what we have tried so far and no joy...

-new plugs
-checked all intercooler piping and connectors
-visually checked intercooler (will re-check just to make sure its in good con)
-we tested coil packs from a fully working sr20

things we are going to try next

1st of all i think we will try the lamba sensor not sure this is the cause but worth a shot.

if no joy there i will do a comp test (if all ok)

i will borrow my mates 180sx to swap sensors over and ecu if need to..

just like to add to this thread to that jamie aka jthm did not buy this car from jm-imports (he got it elsewere) but we are just registereing his car for him on his behalf and its a shame its come with numerous issues on arrival to UK as jamie is a nice lad and the car has a lot of issues..

but we will help jamie get on the road asap..

so any more suggestions please fire away as am more into my supras than sr20

i would take it to a specialist before wasting any more time

other than that:

compression test now!

then check the T.P.S change with a working one off another car if possible

Compression test showed no faults. so engine is ok. Lambda sensor removal made no differance either.

Anyone got any other ideas? Am running out of straws to clutch at here.

Air leak. Or dead TPS or AFM. Almost the only things at work at that rpm. If it was shipped in a container from Japan you can bet just about anything down to your gf's knickers that the AFM would take a beating for the salty conditions at sea, especially with that crappy air-inlet thingy... I refuse to call it "filter",period.

Change the afm. Some dude in Ware had the same problem when he wired up his AFM wrong.

Hi Guys

Problem may have been found

A test with nissan diagnotic stuff showed a faulty lambda senosr (as you guys suggested).

Another sensor (put in exhaust) showed that it was running very rich.

Anybody know what kind of Lambda sensor i need to buy as a replacement? It turns out the other 180 he is working on has a completely different one to mine.

Many thanks

Jamie

The stock 180 one has a smaller thread as far as I remember. I may have one in the garage but won't be able to check for a couple of days.
