SR20DET mis-fire. Need help.

Hi folks
Need some help and advice from the fine folks of .

I just got a car with a newly rebuilt sr20det block from Japan. Unfortunately it has developed a mis-fire between leaving there and getting here.

It starts and idles ok but between 2500 and 3000 rpm its misfires and when I the release the accelerator the revs drop bellow 1000 and it tries to stall.
The fuel gauge is also not working and I'm wondering if this is part of the problem.

The car is currently still with JM-Imports. They have tried new plugs and it was still there. They're going to try checking all the pipes and intercooler pipework tomorrow.

Any advice and idea would be much appreciated.

Pics and vid incase it helps

Many Thanks
Jamie

I'd try cleaning the air flow meter first!
Does it do it all the time or just when the engine is warm?

Edit.... I've just seen your boost pipes are held together with cable ties!

I'll bet money that you have a massive boost leak from there! Get some jubilee clips on there! I'm sure that'll solve your problem!

Cheers guys

@DoriDave: He's going to try swapping the coil packs he has on a motor that runs ok.

@jamespayne5: That pipe is one of our suspects. Only saw the car in the flesh yesterday and that piece isn't even a pipe it looks like its just a rectangle of rubber.
Pipe work is getting checked tomorrow anyway

If that doesn't work, try the lambda sensor

Report from today:

Coilpacks and sensors were done and misfire was still there.
Pipes are being stripped and checked for boost leaks next.

Cheers for the help

Get them to put some jubilee clips on those boost pipes prompto!! lol
I can see a gap in your pic between that there boost pipe and silicon joiner and thats not good!
Cable ties kick ass but they're not good enough for that mate!!

I'm utterly surprised they were looking at coilpacks and sensors before checking that piping for leaks

Same here I thought that was what they were trying today. Ach well. They seemed to know their stuff and I've heard only good reviews bout them. I'll just have to trust them. I cant exactly ship it back to Japan to be looked at lol

Cheers mate

I was thinking the exact same thing.

Unplug the lambda sensor, then drive it, mine did the exact same thing, its now running unplugged with not a single hic up

No news today

Am not a mechanic and my knowledge of motors is......limited to say the least. Where might i find this "lambda/oxygen sensor"? I searched google and found this link:
Fuel Parts UK - Leading the Injection Aftermarket
Edit: is this it?

Given who built it this is probably what its there for. I had a look for sharp edges when I saw it on sat and it was smooth down through the battery tray. I saw a tear in the rubber and checked on auto pilot (only thought of it now)

Cheers Guys.

The actual sensor itself is either going to be on the exhaust manifold or downpipe. Trace the wire from it and try pulling the plug it connects to as said above by Danny_boy.

This is what it looks like:

Cheers mate.

After a little more time with google.... I think this is what i'm looking for:
OEM Nissan: O2 Sensor
And that it could be the thing circled in this pic.

If so I will e-mail the guy and suggest all the new idea. Also will it be ok to drive it with it unplugged?

Much appreciated
Been waiting so long for this car. can't wait to more than just drive it round an industrial estate a few times then get a train back up north.
