In 2004 I did it with proper paint/compressor/booth. In 2006 I did it with satin black rattle cans in a field. Rattle cans in satin black worked fine. Do it that way, but don't expect to be able to sell your car to anyone afterwards. Edit - useful info: halfords satin black rattle cans, about 6 of them did my MX5, maybe another 2 for the hard top. So budget for 8 big cans of paint, some 1000 grit wet and dry paper, some masking tape and wait for a warm, dry, windless day. Any paint you have left over can be used for touching up crash damage Last edited by Captain Muppet : 24-09-2008 at 14:01. Reason: being helpful

hahaha sell my car to anyone, any sane person wouldn't buy it with the state, the current paint job is faded red, i.e. pink, its only good for ragging the ass off it till it falls to pieces, you had any problems with cleaning it or wear over the year Cpt.Muppet, thanks for the encouragement Stavros,

Matt black was a pain to get birdshit off of, but satin black is dead easy to look after. Not problems at all, and no worrying about overspray when you need to fix crash damage.

Thing is, I thought the same when I satin blacked my e28, but then I did metallic on my e30 and it's as easy to touch up. Just wipe the dirt off and spray it on, job done. Looks 10x better than satin/matt black and has zero lifestyle points so you don't look like an idiot. Don't get me wrong, some cars suit satin black such as old hot rods and some motorbikes etc, but imo s13s and modernish looking cars just look wank. Stop being a lifestyler and paint it a proper colour, if you can get satin black looking right with rattle cans then you can get metallics/gloss paints looking right too.

I don't care if it's lifestylee, I like the shediness of my car and it makes me happy. Maybe it'd make other people happier about it if it was shiny (Hello Em ), but until I think I'd like it with proper paint it'll stay looking shit.

I think your car suits it due to the graphics, carbon goodies, and general look of the car. Most modernish cars just look pants when they've been satin blackd though. I loved my e28 when it was satin as it looked pure evil and was old school.

thanks for all the replies, does anyone have any photos that show the difference between a satin black and a matt black car, my main worry is girls will get out the chalk and start placing hop scotch on my roof and bonnet if i go full matt black, maybe satin is the way to go, Munky´s touring is matt black right?. what does yours look like cpt muppet, my main aim is to make the car look shit not to be lifestylee or whatever that is, i want it too look like its been left in the desert for five years and now its back and its pissed off as hell about it, with a little,"i've got a hobo sleeping in the back seat" to round it all off,

Lots of pics of my car here: Muppet's MX5 project Starts off with it being yellow/white/green, then it gets painted satin black, then it turns in to 4 pages of drift damage and mods including ghetto carbon fibre panels and naked girls* * not really any naked girls.
