200sx S14a problem ... please help

i have a problem ... i have bought a S14a manual turbo tonight ... the engine is standard with just a dump valve fitted ... but there is a problem ...

The car doesn't sound right ... there is a tappety noise coming from the engine and not sure what is might be ...

the car is due a service as well and has been stood for about 3 months from what the old owner told me ...

it starts fine, no smoke, anything

and also it takes a while to get the revs up ... not sure if this is normal or not as i have never owned a Nissan or anything over 1600cc ... cheers

didn't you check out the engine before buying the car

you'll need to be more descriptive with your, erm, description of the problem. Where is the noise coming from, when does it happen? could be vvt rattle, could be big ends, who knows yet.
what do you mean, takes a while to build the revs? under load, no load, low rpm, high rpm, how long is a while?

when i boght the car it was absolutely fine ... the noise developed after about 100 miles ... i only noticed it when i stopped at a petrol station ...

The noise comes from the top of the engine ...

and with the revs ... just me in the car and in first gear, 2000 rpm dump the clutch and it takes about 3-4 secs to reach 6000 rpm ... and it drinks petrol like a train ... done 300 miles with £150 at a constant speed of 70-80 mph ...

something's not right there.

the low power/high fuel consumption might suggest a boost leak. if the engine is standard, you should be getting over 300miles to a tank. boost leak would have a major impact on that and the power. check for that first.

as for the tapping noise, do a search for vvt rattle on sxoc, and see if the symptoms match that

also, if it's been standing for 3 months, check that there's enough oil, coolant, etc.
