UK ODC results for Buxton Round 3 - 15-5-2011

Well it was a shitty rainy day but the Buxton heroes made it awesome as usual! The track of death only claimed a few skulls, I think you should all be proud haha.

Here's our map with the judging notes from today.

    And the scores....

Rich Grindrod was our overall winner, again Rich - great driving but the only reason you didn't score even higher was that your entry (which was very aggressive with lots of angle) was nowhere near the wall.

Can't bum everyone but there were lots of good entries, despite it being terrifying to watch - let alone drive! Good work from you all! I've made a few notes so if anybody wants some feedback on their runs I'm happy to answer them.

I'd like to order some nicer weather though next time please

When in doubt - clutch kick.

You didn't crash into the wall until after the last corner haha so we didn't mark you down for it.

I think you should just go for it and hope it quietens down haha.

Matt should have won, and chris should have got 55 for his wall tap alone.

Thanks to the guys on the gate and stuff.

Joe - thanks for your useful input, I'm sorry that your driving wasn't up to scratch today but I don't think that justifies your little rant - it just makes you look like a dick.

I'd have loved Matt to have won, he's probably my favourite drifter at Buxton and I get along with him well. I'd have also loved JohnJ to have won, as he is my boss and you're supposed to treat them well. Unfortunately though, I am an impartial judge! I barely know Rich, and even kept calling him Ant until late in the day at the last Buxton haha, but I'm afraid he won on skill alone.

Rich's entry was marked down due to being nowhere near the wall, but the rest of his run was almost flawless. Perfect line and speed through the infield, total aggression, crisp transitions from lock to lock - a real treat to watch.

Matt had a great run too, slightly lacking the speed and aggression of Rich's run overall, but with a much wider entry really close to that wall. Unfortunately for Matt, his first and third runs just weren't upto the same standard so Rich won on the numbers of it. That's the way the cookie crumbles I'm afraid.

Chris drove well today but you aren't judged on one individual part of a run - it's the whole ensemble that is counted. So his restrained entries cost him points on the rest of his runs.

I hope this clarifies things for you, and I hope for everybody's sake that you do better in the competition next time - so that we don't have to put up with you sulking.

I didn't even mention my run? I think it was scored fine, the comment about chris's was just because somehow he made a amazing Clip on the last corner I was just saying that was worth that amount on it's own!!!! Iirc no one else did!!!!!

As for the winner, I don't mind who wins's I've never complained before ever? I always normally say how fair it is! I like John and Matt both I don't even know the other guy. After all your the one who had the best view.

As for constructive comments Im out , thought the day was run great and the track was awesome.

Joe, you made a bitchy comment, I answered. Now, you are back-tracking rather than validating your argument.

If you truly believe that Matt should've won then please, explain your thoughts.

And I was making reference to your driving as after your runs you just seemed to sit in your car sulking, which is presumably why you felt the need to have a rant on here when you got home.

I sat in he car because I wanted to have a chill and wait till it stopped raining, not all of us had a cosy commentary box, I was pissed off with myself but no one else Deserves a ear full for that, so i thought id cool down.

I did write I full response explaining what I thought, but I changed it to something abit more pc,

On the topic of Matt and John you ask any of the drivers who they can remember thought put in he best run out of them 2 Matt would probably tip it they were close but I distinctly remember thinking it's going to be close between Matt and the Beemer guy and John a close 3rd.

But like I said that was my point of view. Which doesn't really matter.

As more me, being bitchy or pissed off, I'm more annoyed I only just found out it was dry on sat!!!!!

Dude I always say how hard the judging must be and how you guys always do a great job. But I think he top 3 should have been closer. If not a different order.

I'm not going to back track on anything but john asked us not to essay it up on here, I was more just biggimg up Chris Matt and John, looks lime the jdm massive are going to need some support this year.

Like I said as for me mate don't worry. If anything the results today help me out!

Look, i didnt think youd get so defencive about it, it was more a litte dig/wind up/banter. especilly after last time and the judging response parlava

    sorry dude.

you know if i had it my way id just put JohnJ and matt top every week. even last time when matt wasnt there. just because there numberplate recesses are of the right shape!

    ----

edit [ this is mainly just to make a point that im not back tracking - thats probably annoyed me more then anything!] (the only reason i say matt would just pip john (if you want that much detail) is on the initiations into the first corner matt was really smooth, and seem to be really consistant using wieght transfer on the initiaiton, somehting i thought you of anyone would be impressed by., John just seems alittle less smooth - more aggressive maybe but i seem to remember 1 time he slightly straitened due to not having any revs on after the wand went off).. thats the only difference i thought.

it maybe you thought the same but when they were totted up thats just the way they rolled.

Had an awesome weekend at buxton with drift one. Gets better every time! With a judged competition there will always be difference of opinion but mike knows his shit and had the best view of the lot. I'm chuffed to come top 3, better than last time so its all that matters, but nice one for the comments guys, shame my other runs wernt up to scratch. Rich drove great and so did john so well done guys! It will only make me try harder next time . See you all soon and lets keep this comp about having shit loads of fun.

Thanks for putting on good show guys, really enjoyed myself and that front N/S tap was a blinder (pun intended )

My 2p (from a spectator point of view) was that Richard had it locked down on every run and made no mistakes. It was a real plesure to watch from the grandstand.

I'm assuming the white silva is now the yellow one right? Confused me for a second when i read the score sheet...

You all did really well guys, i'll look forward to your next instalment and maybe get out on track again myself.

Fuck me, who the fuck would enter a competition where the first part of it is to skid your car towards a concrete reinforced steel wall flat out, and after that drive to judged criteria for another 4 corners?

But that's what you did. And with MJG in charge expect more of the same.

I'm very happy with my 2nd place, pipped to the post again by that fucker in the BMW but he's a serious contender as I've said before. Well done Rich.

Cool it Joe, Matt looked really good from where we were watching but when I spoke to him he was pleased to get top 3, he knew he'd made mistakes on 2 of his 3 runs. But that good one he did was something special!

I think that in all the years I've been involved with racetracks, racing and driving experiences etc, that competition today was the toughest drive I've ever done.

Mike says the next one's harder. But it will make you better.

Phew! At least jacko was watching the Beemer too haha.

Joe - the top 3 WERE close, 10 points difference over two runs? It doesn't get any closer! Johns entry was fantastic, yes on one he straightened and we marked him down for it, but his line through the rest was good and proper aggression on the exit of the last corner too which rocked. At the end of the day, Matt would've won if all his runs were like his 2nd run, and I fully expect him to win one in the near future! But john's driven better every time too. It's going to be tough!

And come on, let's not detract from Rich - I know he's a new face to most of us but he still fully deserves his win - and in a nearly standard 323i BMW? See how he handles some of the other tracks

Ryan - I got yours and the blue skyline guy's scores, you got 35 on your non-spinning run and he got 65. Your other runs were better and a couple of times you had me gasping in the commentary box, but then you span haha. We all saw you driving all day though and if you could've been scored on your out-of-comp driving it would be a lot higher. Main criticism was lack of angle or aggression, probably lost that as you were too worried about getting 3 spins which is fair enough, but good job anyway

Yeah ok. Obviously it was difficult for us to see from where we were. I don't mean to take anything away from rich John or Matt I was just speaking up for what it looked like from our view, it was a semi, throw away/ tounge in cheek comment. Sorry your got all devensive.
