lots of questions 1.what do you use to fit them at home 2.where online do you get them from 3.is it cheaper than getting them done by a shop ect,ect
1. Tyre bars 2. Dunno, My mate got them. 3. Yes its cheaper as in.. we do it ourselfs. Is it easier? Hell no. LMAO! We're away to get a tyre machine and balancer.
I don't want to fit tyres again without a tyre machine... the last time mintocunt nearly set me on fire...
Tyre machine and bead blaster in the garage at home. Handles most stuff. Tyres are generally part worns with the odd set of retreads thrown in the mix when I'm being posh.
Yeah i lost alot of hair that day ... I blame the shitty air line not connecting. If it would snap on, it would of gone back on first time. I dont use bead blasters though.. far better with just fire.
I have a tyre machine at home, couldn't not have one now.. Paid for itself in the first year... Thinking i might get a new one soon..
It's easy, it's cheaper and you can do whatever you want without relying on anybody. Got camber? Swap tyres around onto the rims and wear out the good edge. 2Nd hand tyres? No problem! Free tyres? Even better. For some people the hardest part is to break the bead. This can be done in many ways using your imagination. Scissor jack – Rest it on the tyre and lift the car (will not work with light cars like Corsa) http://i203.photobucket.com/albums/aa81/GruvThang/100_1106.jpg Tight alley or house gap – Make your own tool like a offroad 4x4 jack that is jammed with the wheel between 2 walls http://shoeboxdwelling.com/wp-content/uploads/2012/10/ON-design-narrow-house-large-gap-1-500x333.jpg Drive over planks – This is what I use and it works every time but obviously you need 2nd vehicle http://i.imgur.com/Xu4rsVQ.jpg http://i.imgur.com/oEhlcQ6.jpg Once the bead is down as you can see all I use is 2 levers, soapy water, valve tool, proper hand air pump, and I think thats all I can remember for now. Video of somebody on this forum that showed me how it's done. You don't need these tyre levers by the way. They are like 100gbp, the shorter chinese version is like 10gbp for both. eBay item number: 141367068227 eBay item number: 28128381766 To get the tyre back on I use Brake Cleaner as it doesn't require much fluid and it explodes massively. Hair spray can also work but it's less flammable and requires a big load. If you have problem getting the tyre to stay on after explosion, try turning it around, somebody standing on top of it etc. Normally you will run into this problem when you try to stretch rather than low profile problems. Here is a good topic that people covered what they've done to make it work http://www.driftworks.com/forum/technical/158620-best-technique-tyre-stretch.html I've been doing this for quiet a while now and even my friends swear by me. I will never forget when my close buddy didn't want me to touch his Audi A4 and got a garage to get 4 new tyres. This is my face when he got a puncture 1 month later http://i.imgur.com/iV2Rtbw.png This is my face when the garage told him they can't repair it because it's not basically right smack in the middle (convenient eh?) http://i.imgur.com/aJ6r8Jf.jpg I don't have a face when my other friend brought in a second hand tyre and a random garage told him they won't fit it for him since it's new health and safety regulations and they can get sued. Now i do all their tyres and they normally get them from Ebay or the car morgue. Even I didn't cheap skate and bought some on ebay because with the delivery I got 2 rare 145/15 sizes with 6mm left for like 25 with postage. For that price even I wouldnt waste petrol to drive looking for them.
