DMCC was back at the RiverSide Speedway in Ste Croix Quebec for the 5th round of competition of the season. Once again it was a top 32 event combining the Pro and Pro Am driver into one action packed event.
The event started early. A little too early for one FRS piloting driver. Thanks to a miss calculation with where their hotel location the Drift Posse/Dead Machine crew slept in their truck.. Pat Cyr tried to get a few extra minutes of sleep before the drivers meeting.
Marc Landreville has been having a decent season and was in contention to get his 2nd championship. In the morning I spotted him..but no car. Turned out the engine on his S14 let go while getting it ready for this event.. He made the trip anyway to be the spotter for his good friend Jonathan Guitard.
The pits filled up fast as the teams were getting ready for the event.
Tanner Munsons car looked wicked for this event. Last time we saw it was matt green now a cool looking matt purple thanks to his sponsor rubber-wrap.com
Alex Gosselins mechanic really gets into his work!
Doesn’t every drivers meeting need a trampoline?
Or a fancy rocking chair.
During this time the rest of the Drift Possy/Dead Machine crew caught some shut eye.
Love the rulez!
After the meeting the drivers suited up and lined up for the first round of practice..With it being a one day event there was only a short 2 hour practice session.
Eric Warnett was focused and ready. Always fun watching him out on track.
And with that the tires started to burn!
Love the smoke trails at this track.
Jo Thiffault has been having engine problems recently with his rolla.. After talking with him in the pits he was not hopefull about finishing the event.
Alex Michaud podiumed last time DMCC was at this track.. He was looking good chasing Max Lemoine who is currently 1st in the Rookie of the year race but also in the overall Championship.
Pat Cyr was looking really good in his FRS compared to last round!
Brad Carlton had a close call with Max Poirier but no major damage to either car.
On the other hand Tom Tom had a huge off with his S13. This is where Jeff Laflamme crashed a few weeked ago wile doing a drift demo. Tom Tom’s car looked mangled. He was thankfully ok.
With practice just about over the drivers were putting down some sick runs.
Almost as predicted Joe Thiffaults little rolla blew it during practice so sadly Joe was out of rd5 too early.
With qualifications about to start the grand stands started to fill..
Impressively Tom Toms team got his car back in running order so he could qualify. His car looked more like a dune buggy but he was able to get himself into the show.
It seemed that Marc Landrevilles spotting helped as Jonathan Guitard tied Dave Briggs for the 4th qualification spot. Due to Daves high entry speed he was officially the 4th place qualifier.
Alex Michaud put down a solid pass and got him the 3rd spot.
Kevin Morin put down a smoky run getting him the 2nd spot.
And qualifying 1st was none other then Jeff Laflamme.
After quals there was a short break giving time for the teams to get their cars ready for the Top 32 battle.
It was also a good time to take care of other “work”.
Big props to Alex Blanchette. He was set to face Pat Cyr in Top 32 but he was having major tranny issues so instead of possibly costing Pat the win due to something stupid Alex decided to forfeit.. Very cool of him.
After the short break the drivers made their way to the pre grid for the first round of tandem battles.
Top Qualifier Jeff Laflamme had a bye run..But he still put a good show on for the fans!.
Tanner Munson faced Jessy Gaudy – Tanner took the win.
Both Pat Cyr and Eric Paradis had bye runs and would face each other in the Top 16.
Youri Levesque VS Nic Lorange – Youri wins.
Bob Patinka VS Tom Tom – Bob moved on.
Jonathan Guitard VS Alex Roi – Jonathan gets the win.
Vincent Theberge VS Michel Pelchat – Vincent Wins.
Paco VS Max Lemoine – Paco gets the win.
Brad Carlton VS Maxime Cyrenne – Brad goes on to the top 16.
Simon Schaffner VS Claude Poirier – Simon looked solid but a mechanical failure took him out of competition.
Great Battle between Eric Warnett and Francois Perusse – Francois get the win.
After the Top 32 the pits were opened to the fans before the main Top 16 event.
It was a great time to buy some t-shirts and get posters signed.
Brad Carlton enjoying a snack before competition.
Francis Tasse has a good eye for spotting me even tho I try to get photos un noticed.
During this time the Dave Briggs team makes sure Dave is ready..Proper alignment and fluids all topped off.
I signed Pat’s FRS!
With the spotters ready it was time for the Top 16 to get underway.
Pat Cyr VS Eric Paradis – Eric takes the win.
Jeff Laflamme VS Tanner Munson- Jeff Spins giving the win to Tanner.
Bob Patinka VS Dave Briggs- Dave takes the win.
Paco VS Kevin Morin who had a bye run into the top 16 – Paco gets the win.
Youri VS Jonathan – Jonathan spins..Youri moves on.
Francis Tasse also had a bye run in the top 32 now faced Claude Poirier – Tasse takes the win.
Alex Michaud VS Brad Carlton – Brad wins.
Vincent Theberge VS Francois Perusse – Vincent wins.
Onto the Great 8 – Eric Paradis VS Tanner Munson – Tanner takes the win.
Youri VS Dave – Dave Briggs gets the win.
Francis Tasse VS Paco – Francis wins.
Brad VS Vincent – Brads car breaks down – Vincent moves on.
Final 4! Briggs VS Munson – Briggs takes it!
Tasse VS Theberge – Tasse moves on to face Briggs for the top spot.
Battle for 3rd was intense. Tanner gets the win giving him his first DMCC podium of the season.
Last battle of the event. 800+ hp v8 VS 700 +hp SR20..After Tasse made contact with Briggs on his chase run and then Briggs messed up his chase run the battle went to a OMT where both drivers gave it all they had. It was crazy the amount of smoke both these guys were putting out. In the end Dave Briggs takes the win. His 2nd of the season and 2nd at this very track.
Final Standings: Dave Briggs/ Francis Tasse./Tanner Munson/Vincent Theberge. With this 2nd place finish it has bumped Francis up in the lead for the championship. With 3 more rounds to go the championship will come down to the wire.
Thanks
