    Hello all,

I'm after a new car for commuting to work and was interested in a 330D beemer.

Not many about that fit what I want from it, but quite a few 320's.

Is the 320 any good at all? Or is it dogslowwww...

    Any other pro/cons?

    Cheers, Sam.

320D is sweet with a remap, what are you looking for though? I'm considering selling my 330D touring.

Mines been good, just make sure you change the swirl flaps for blanks (just google 320d swirl flaps, massive problem on this shape) Piece of piss to do, and the blanks only cost £50 or so.

Other than that i havnt really come across any cons with mine!

As above really I had mine over a year and never spent a penny on it besides a set of pads a service and a remap which I would recommend as it totally transformed the car.

You pay a massive premium for the diesels these days. Make sure you do the sums to guarantee a petrol won't be cheaper

check out the bangle 5 series, they're as cheap if not cheaper than the 330d's with the same engine.

Just bumping this to see if anyone has any experiance with a chipped 320?

I'm wanting a 330D touring but for my budget I can't find the spec I want, however a 320D with some goodies can be found for a much better premium.

Yer this is the only major problem with them. Which reminds me, my old man took his e90 to the dealer for a service, got chatting with the service bloke, said about the above problem and that you could get blanks to solve it. He almost shat a chicken and put me firmly in my place telling me there was no such thing. Cock.

I drove a standard 54 plate ish 320d a while back and I was really suprised with how nippy it was. That said a re-map on any diesel is a no brainer in my eyes :)

very good solid engine not much goes wrong. usual turbos at high mileage, occasional injector faults but all in all very reliable engine. obviously get flaps done as mentioned earlier. and a remap should see good mpg and a reasonable punch of power for a derv.

    good car!

drove a fair few chipped 320d,s and they seem so much better than standard a fair punch on boost and a nice rise in mpg.

I used to skid about in my 120d m-sport, completely standard, used to spin the wheels and skid ok even with an open diff, just needed full commitment:D

Couple of my mates have 330d's and they go like stink. I've got a 530d touring, its fast enough but not going to pull your face off. It maybe for sale aswell if I can interest you in it.

The trouble with the 320d is the engine sound.
It just sucks when you put it next to a 530D six pot.

My 530D is chipped and I've put an EGR bypass in and a decat.
    Goes like fuck IMO.
Just really torquey. 80-100 in no time.

i love mine. i do 450 motorway miles a week for work and in return i get 58-61 mpg. (53 plate 320d)

decent build car and by far the comfiest car i have ever been in.

major thing to sort out striaght away before you do anything is swirl flaps. cost around £50 for the blank plates and you can do it yourself with very little mechanical knowledge in around 2 hours. Essex`s Leading BMW and Mercedes Specialist | PMW Ltd
