Here's a short run in my 325i. For a long time, I tried to concentrate on mimimizing steering input. Here's a video from a few years back when I was driving the Corolla. Notice lots of wheel work for no reason.
haha thats me in the soarer in front Great thread btw, in car vids are the best filming in mates 350z
Clive you are the most composed drifter I have ever know.... You might as well get out a beer while your drifting lol. I look like I'm fighting the steering wheel but the car 90% of the time go's exactly where I want it to lol
Most recent's from Saturday up at Pod, GoPro 2 HD. Chucking the wheel is fun and this is first time for me without a decent handbrake. Way more interesting to drive without a wand!
Anybody got any auto car skids? Would love to see others techniques without a handbrake or clutch from incar.. Thanks.
skyline Handbrake is an amazing set up once adjusted right Personally for me, I don't get on so well with the stock position, how I have it suits me and works well... each to there own. Bad thing is, I have become what I believe to be; rather reliant on it.... annoys the fuck out of me! Where before I used to flick it in and scrub the speed off with angle... saying that; I did crash more often then Cheers Dave. Spent too long on this chassis/set up now done many of practise days in it, different tracks etc without changing a thing... become rather settled... all just works well together Another one, got well carried away and pissed off my tyres was dieing and lacking grip! Note at the end, it doesnt look like it.... but I was panicing we where gonna go into the tyre wall on the right!
topi! what diff is in the beamer. takes me from lunch to dinner time to get up to 3rd but you just fly up through them?
Nope, manual and it was a Chaser. Theory would be the same though as I didn't want to kick the standard clutch.
So you can tell this car is new to me? haha The car is so underpowered it's a joke but I have to say sooo much more fun than all the skylines I've had. Less powers kinda brings back the fun of drifting for me, it's just frustrating at times and a fight as you can see Crash at the end.
Comes from being a motorbike rider at heart I think! Love your style of driving Kevin, the lydden hill final qaulifying run is amazing!! Looks fun and no worrys, I like it Car is geared for 3rd and 4th, being inline less chances of missing a gear/smashing box... Poor mans sequential box as lex calls it after driving my car!
Some of you guys look like you could be making a cuppa and rolling a fag while your chucking the car about, so relaxed and smooth! I'm flailing about atm, these videos have helped loads though, keep em coming
i just want to say, personally i think watching other's videos to learn can be next to useless, if you're only interested in their steering technique, then you're not going to learn anything. here's the thing, technique is dependent on so many things, each car requires different technique, if you aren't adapting your technique to each car, you're doing something wrong. believing too strongly that one technique is 100% correct can be bad. I could show you in car videos of me driving 5 different cars and not one of them i'll be driving the same, in fact i could show you 1 car with 2 different alignment settings and im using 2 different techniques. With all that said, there is of course the fact that each person might simply have a different style which works for them, looking at some of the best drivers in the world, you will find different techniques. There are some fundamentals that it's worth knowing about. I've been hearing since day dot people praising these "smooth techniques" however in a lot of cases, the real smooth techniques lend to really sedate driving, slow slopping transitions/initiations. Getting the car to do exactly what you want, when you want, often requires sharp quick inputs, driving like a sloth can put you in the wrong place at the wrong time. When you're not taking the car to it's limits or getting near anything, then it's easy to be smooth as your inputs are never overly urgent, but when you're pushing hard, they are urgent, and you need to move quickly. Another basic fundamental issue with steering is not allowing the wheel to return by itself, basic tracing or simply pulling/feeding the wheel off lock each way is a good way to properly control the car's movement. Short of those and maybe a few other bits, the key is the get out and drive car's which aren't easy to drive, the less of the driving the car does for you, the better developed you steering technique will be, and that's the key, developing your own style and technique that suits you.
