Hi all this is my mx5 daily drifter that i purchased as an entry into drifting. at the min its boggo standard and needs a fair bit of tlc.its had a bit of welding done along with a rear drop link and discs and pads all around. i have purchased some coilovers but havn't got round to fitting them yet. coilovers being cleaned up a bit
TA technix coilovers? Im using the same on my project till funds allow me to get summat better Whats the overall plan with it then?
yeah the coilovers are TA technix lol same reason i bought them im on a budget im thinkin after i have fitted the coilys get a nice set of alloys, something with stretched tyres. play with the camber and caster. get the diff welded, other than that not put too much thought into it at the min although i am playing with the idea of some wide arches. Im also gonna look into possible engine swaps but that will be in the future.
This will not assist in your drifting career. 0degrees camber on the rear, couple of degrees up front. easy. Good. Waste of time and money. See above.
Arches look good with some stretch under them, as above, TA's are gash, only good for more lows. That being said, when i brought my car it had been lowered to the point that there was no travel in the rear struts and the locking rings were touching the drive shafts. So bear that in mind when u drop it....
Most the mods sound lifestyler rather than drifter tbh mate. here's a good thread that proves whats needed and whats not. http://www.driftworks.com/forum/dri...-epic-1-6-mxgay-epic-lol-missile-etc-etc.html if you CBA to read it. basically, a welder, drivers bucket seat, lock washers, drive drive drive. the red car in the 2nd half of that thread looks almost identical to yours (just not as tidy) at mo, inc some random 5spokes and stock ride height. and happily will do 3rd in the dry.
ok so drift as much as possible and dont worry about styling.... although i do want a nice set of rims for rolling everyday use. anymore advice.... tuning wise????
tuning?!?! not needed. get as much seat time as possible before you put 187364875682437568234bhp through the wheels. if you can "drift" a small bhp car, then youve nowt to worry about.
Adding boost is a big and expensive job tho isn't it? also I would of thought that low compression pistons would be needs???
Depends really, iv seen a few home built jobbies done but not sure whats 100% involved. My mate at work scored a cheap(ish) HKS kit for a grand, it was literally a bolt on kit conaining everything you need although it only works with non ABS models cos of engine bay space... All that works on standard internals, heard a rumor somewhere that they were designed to accomodate a small turbo, not sure how true that is....
Oh really. That's good. I'm happy with the power at the min tho because its a 1.8 and I'm still learning lol. A quick question tho because I know you have done a lot of work on yours, when fitting coilovers on the the front do you need to take the pivot bolt out of the upper wishbone?
All the suspension is standard on mine apart from the coilies, swaybars and bushes, i have retained all the stock bolts, never seen a need to replace anything unless it was mega rusty lol. I have heard that you should raise the rack the same mm that you drop the car by as you loose steering lock.... Not sure how true that is :-/
Easyer to remove lower wishbone adjuster bolts bud, I've done about 10mx5s and its the quickest way. Alignment will need doing after but will need doing regardless
