Joe that's all well and good but having the end of a concrete wall AFTER initiation is just retarded! What happened if someone makes a mistake not going for a hero entry and smashes up there car ............ Oh wait !
FFS there are some retarded comments on here! FIA steering wheels are designed to bend in a big crash! If it didn't he'd have a broken wrist and thumb! Barriers were water filled! Not concrete! Yes I agree they should have been tailed in or longer. Fact of the matter is, if they were not there, the cars that hit them would have hit the tyres and maybe rolled like Bagsy. Loads of people have done the same on that corner over the years, my self included, just a shame Bagsy bounced off in a way to turn the car over. It's plane and simple snap back! Driver error, no mechanical failure. Parts flying about in the car! I think most people don't realise the forces in a crash! They may think its secure until some thing like that happens. Weak entry! That was the 1st lap maybe second of the day, on a track that had been soaked with rain for the last 24 hours, can you not blame drivers for taking it a little bit easy to start with? Not to mention, to Bagsy that was a new car, which they'd had problems with the whole weekend, with no testing prior to the event and very little practice the day before. I'm not defending Bagsy, I think he's a stuck up twit but thought I'd correct all the bull shite on here as its no good for the sport!
Previous years all drivers were told not to dirt drop!! Fuck tards ignore it coz there cool! Tracks tell organisers they are not coming back if it continues. Organisers take action..... Fact tards bitch on bitch works!
Bollocks. Show me a steering wheel that bends in a WRC roll for example. Not to mention the fact that it's fucked before there's even a crash. You break bones when you hold onto the wheel during a crash, not because it doesn't bend. And are you saying its ok, or that parts should be flying around the car?
No, I'm saying that the guys may have thought it was secure enough for a crash, not actually understanding the forces involved. Basically more education needed, some thing like this for example.
Totally, like mentioned imagine a smack in the face from a battery/extinguisher. My mate rolled his CRX and the head unit came out and twatted him in the head, funny now but he still has a scar lol.
They have been put in for a reason as Polo says. YEAP 100% agree the wall needs to be extended. As if the wall was longer he would of brushed against it/wall broke his momentum as they have a bit of give and move. People would end up not worrying and treating them like skittles if they had no water in them.... be forever picking them up. Yeap, wheel should bend in a crash- but not as easily as that,,, reason that did was coz' it was already bent; which in turn has weakened it. Bunch of faggots saying there shouldn't be a wall! Goes back to the day everyone was bumming Mitto on dorkworks like 'yeh we need wallz in da uk like dem jap heroes have in dem E'pic jdm dori films Yo' You put some in, people moan. You do silly entries into there, expect to hit them. End of the day, he had to make a split second choice and IMO got shit unlucky. Main thing is he is completely fine.
Yep! I stacked my 1st car, a mini, head on, centre cap from steering wheel flew out and nearly took my eye out!
Totally my first thought too, Ive done similar myself (but without the wall, obviously) Glad he's OK, think some of the analysis on here is rather harsh TBH.
To be completely honest we came down for the Sunday and the only person with really aggressive balls out entries was Kevin in his e36. With opposite entries and actually kicking in not just hanging off of the wand like everyone else. Also by the sounds of things was the only one who listened in the drivers briefings where people were told not to wand in? (I could be wrong on that) The other thing with opposite kick entries is you take away 95% of the risk of having a head on with that barrier which is why I'm sure they said that. If you just stay right hand track side and wand in (seen in this video) then of course if it goes wrong you're going straight into the barrier or tyre wall. Whereas if you opposite kicked you'd be running the back of the car along the wall. We all know that the forces at work in a crash are great but surely you should be able to secure something so it's not flying about inside the car. It's really not that hard to fab up a battery holder that will withstand an impact. As for securing fire extinguisher that should be paramount!
Opisit flick was not asked for! Fast snappy initiation and not dragging on the wand! Not dialling in angle as you go! So, as much angle, as soon as possible, for as long as possible, if we used the wand to do that, then that was fine, as long as it was not dragged on.
Just on the zero point score, that kam mentioned that's fine in qualify etc but its in practice when the damage gets done. I think of the walls are required why fill them? genuine question.
I didn't say it was asked for. I would say a "snappy initation" would just an opposite flick to be honest. And not dragging on the wand? Everyone was hanging off of it like their life depended on it :/
ive had a similar off to this at crail but ended up in the field. a big fast wand entry without enough of a flick to carry the momentum. We call it a lynch. It happens he was just unlucky . 2 or 3 more barrier curled round to wards the tire wall would have sorted it and would have caught any stray cars. Too late now though.
Joe - Sef: alright man spoke to you breifly while queing for qualifying.... whats that song "rubber bandits"?? haha actually wana hear it now!
Does the track know grass grows back lol So what I'm reading here is because its an amature competition they need to put walls in to keep the crap drivers on the track? I find it funny that a gravel trap is deleted because it costs too much to use lol, IMHO there should only need a wall if its a clipping point. I have never fallen off the track at Lydden, nor have I needed to dirt drop on the entry, but I would overhang the track with rear bumper, so stupid that's where the barriers start, poor planning I'm afraid this comes down to. If the barriers had not been there he would have just gone in yr Gravel trap and not had a rolled car. Personally barriers there or not wouldnt bother me, but as its allot of over confident drivers its spells crashu lol
