Looking good so far! Clicked this thread randomly browsing the project forum, second photo thought 'sure I recognise that jazz with the blue wheels...' Looking at the photos you live around the corner from one of my best mates, how weird hah! You'll probably see my bm there every so often!
Small progress update but nowt too constructive. Picked up these from work ready for the engine rebuild; Standard size ACL Race Rod and Main Bearings and Thrust Washer, hopefully wont be long untill it starts going back together... Seen a few people retrimming their door cards too so thought i would give it a go, so pulled them off; Stripped them down; And wound up matching it with the front fender;
So the other day I decided to take the block to the local engine shop to get the bores deglazed so we're all ready for the rebuild. Pistons need cleaning up so i busted out the petrol and an old tooth brush and got scrubbing. Before and after, Chuffed with how well they came out, also got the new piston rings on order and fitted some ARP rod bolts, Took a while to get them all done but was worth it in the end! Cant do much else at the moment so decided to clean up the crank and do some block work whilst i await the piston rings. Started off with a clean and dropped in the ACL Main Bearings and ARP Main Studs, Greased up the bearings with assembly lube and dropped the crank back in, all torqued down and ready to rock!
Amazing work dude, specially in a garden shed Mx5's are worth it, took to Spain and Poland. It was my daily, trip tourer, lifestyler and drifter . Now it's a garden ornament, to many cars/projects... Ur thread is inspiring man, keep up the good work BTW about 1,5year ago (before respray)cI used to roll like that, on the other side was a TIGER WING Woocash
Small update, still waiting for the Piston Rings to arrive so decided to clean up some parts and do what i can... Cleaned up the Oil Cooler and chucked it on along with a HKS Oil Filter, placed the head on too just to get all excited about how its gonna look ; Also had new front and rear Crank Seals so chucked those on too after stripping and cleaning the oil pump; More cleaning on the Sump Baffle and Pick Up Pipe, only clean place i had to keep them was on the engine so they will need to come off again when the Piston Rings land... Thats all for now, next update will be the Rods and Pistons going in, when they get here....
Small parts update, managed to pick up a cheap set of new Samco Rad hoses for £40 and a water pump, wont be long till its running now....
Sooo, Piston Rings have been delayed with the supplier so I am slowly running outa things to do.... On a plus side, I Picked up a set of shiney new core plugs and bashed them in; Also bashed on a new water pump whilst i was at it... Managed to score a set of mint front seats from my pal at work, alot better than the leather ones and aslo more supportive having been reconditioned, so I chucked em in; And chucked on a new sticker... Fingers crossed my fookin Piston Rings turn up before the weekend....!
You either need to get some proper seats or hack the foam out of those. They won't be very good if you ever get round to drifting it.
Yea this is true, may get away with harnesses to start with, will see how i progress when it eventually gets driftable....
Only a minor thing, but if I was rebuilding an engine I'd spend 10min removing all those god awful rough casting marks in the block.
True, not that much of a perfectionist mind. Just want seat time now though so it would only add a few more hours to the build...
Not really had much of an update for a while but i am happy to say that things are starting to move quite quickly once parts arrive that is. That being said I should have a built and driveable car in the next few months... A small part of my order arrived at work yesterday to kick things into gear, a new KAAZ LSD with spare Oil, Mishimoto Thermostat and Mishimoto Exhaust Wrap with Stainless ties and spare HKS Oil Filter; Also a IL Motorsport Race belt and bearings from MX5 Parts; Expecting more parts over the next few weeks such as; Hard Top Mishimoto Alloy Radiator Samco Auxilary Hoses and Hose Clamps Magnacor Leads Exedy Organic Clutch Kit Goodridge Stainless Clutch Line Clutch Slave Cylinder Piston Rings Diff Bearings and Seals TR Lane Harness Bar TRS 4 point Clubman Harnesses Busy times ahead so watch this space...!
Posted Today, 02:04 PM So today, i finally got the Piston Rings delivered and promptly got to work fitting them; Half done; Once that was all done, i got to work building the rest of the engine. Dropped the ACL Rod Bearings in, torqued everything up, dropped the Head Gasket on along with the Head. Fitted the new Cambelt and kit and timed it all up. Then decided to get the Manifold wrapped up... Really starting to come together now! Will try and get roung to fitting the oil pan later, also picking up a hard top tomorrow ready for the Winter!
Over the weekend I picked up my Hardtop, needs re painting so will I be going for the usual Satin Black... Also yesterday i got the sump fitted and sealed up and took delivery of a few more bits, Exedy Clutch Kit, Slave Cylinder, TR Lane Harness Bar, Diff Selas and the gearshifter seals; Then today at work i received my 4 Point TRS Harnesses, Mishimoto Rad and Magnacor 8.5mm Leads; Thats pretty much all of the parts now, looks like i should be fitting the engine and transmission next weekend....!
