I may be coming into ownership of a 540.
My s14 hasn't been running for months so I thought... Why not put the two together... After all, I've seen it's been done.

other than the obvious custom stuff like engine mounts and prop is there anything in should be concerned about when doing this conversion. Is there a lot of loom modifying involved?

there was a guy at Santa pod with a red 14 with a bmw v8. Does anyone have his details? He'd be good to speak to.

Clive on here has 2 v8 S14s at the mo I think, guy on SXOC did a great build thread for putting one into his S13, loads of details of the tricky bits. There is an oil way that needs to pass through the engine mount, seems one of the hurdles that can be done in different ways.

I've tried to avoid joining the sxoc forum but I may have to sign up now.

I dropped Clive a message on fb. Hopefully he can point me in the right direction.

I visited driftland at the weekend and it was a common swap. Both an r33 and 350z had the same swap!!

Yeah the slide motorsport guys seem to like this swap, obviously Huxley Motorsport has put one in a Volvo aswell. Seem to be popping up in all sorts of cars at the moment.

I wonder how much it would affect the handling?
I'd probably have to consider a stiffer front setup !

Awesome. I genuinely can't wait to crack on with it as a project but I find the electrics daunting. I think it's best I invest in some service manuals lol

I'd love to see your s13. Do you have a build thread?

    Ah cool.
Mines the 4.4 which I hear can be more problematic.
Do you know your way around that?

Also I heard there's some kind of stand alone polish ecu that would be a more viable option for running the v8.

Anyone know what this is ?

    yeah mines a 4.4

as long as you dont get a vanos m62 youre fine. also later cars have an immobiliser system (ews) which can be tricky to get round unless you just wire in the key and ews components like i do. ive got a late m62 loom on atm, going into a z32.

Mine is an M62 non Vanos according to the current owner. Its a 98 which was the transitional model into Vanos so I hope he's correct on that one...
What do you mean by z32... I know that as an AFM :p

I don't really know much about BMW stuff.

This is my understanding as well. I'm not against v8's par se.
Just shit BMW v8 that will never really amount to anything.

Now a ls motor with big tuning potential then yea, that's interesting and worth getting involved with.
The gains of having a BMW v8 over an sr or ca would just never outweigh the time and money involved in doing so.
Not when an sr or ca is so cheap and easy to tune to respectable power.

Out of curiosity, how much money and how many hours would you guess a BMW conversion would be?
I mean, even A 1jz engine is only like 500 quid or so and they are pretty badass for no money.

BMW v8s are more advanced than ls' in almost every way and also.don't suffer from the same oil starvation issues as an ls, they have massive potential its just not widely taken advantage of yet. The ls is a fucking dinosaur compared to a modern lump like the BMW or even 1uz.
