Ok I need someone to help claify this as the Internet is FULL of crap.

Iv got this 192 04' RX8 with a gammy 13b in it.. Doesnt like to start at petrol stations .. likes to make alot of song and dance about turning on. However its sat for ages. So I need to change the plugs and oil etc etc .. what oil does this thing actually take?

Halford website says 5W-30. Opie oils says the same. I put in a litre last night of this stuff.. but this website rotaryrevs (Engine Rebuild Explained | RotaryRevs - Mazda RX8 & Rotary Specialist / Mechanic / Servicing) states..

Is this only for their engine rebuilds? I dunno what oil to put in this thing now.. I just know I need to flush it out cause the previous owner hasnt looked after this car at all.
Where's best to go for oil? I hear mineral oil is what I need?

What about premix? Is this just essentially pouring oil into the fuel?

Right - o , never heard it mentioned as 13B before. But I do hear about how reliable/unreliable they are. That being said I really would like an RX-8 as a daily.

Mint - are you going to be speccing it out for driftlands ?

It's possible they just mean use mineral oil after the rebuild of an engine,i know it's standard practice for regular engines.

As for the premix,i know of people that ditch the oil metering pump and mix 2 stroke in with the fuel,as apparently it lubricates better. Unfortunately as this is the internet you'll get different opinions on everything.

Thats for their rebuilds, there's a continuous argument amongst rotorheads around oil. Just use mineral oil if you want to avoid confusion but make sure you change it regularly.

Premix is 2 stroke oil put straight in the petrol filler hole when you fill up a modded car thats had the oil metering parts removed. There's no need to do it on a standard car. Some people do it anyway but it's a waste of time imo, just a back up in case the internal systems fail on older cars.

Does the RX-8 use the engine oil and pump it into the combustion side of the engine like a 2 stroke would ?

Ok cool. Thanks guys - Yeah this thing is totally standard and tbh Im not that interested in doing much to the engine. Im going to change the oil and plugs and see if its any better.. if its not im getting rid of it probably. If it fixes this missfire then I'll consider holding onto it for the future.

I wont bother with the oil in the fuel then thanks Royal.

Yeah your right though.. alot of internet confusion with this car already.. Iv owned it since Saturday, and I hate it already haha. I got my chaser fired up in like 20 minutes or something.. This rotary took over 2 hours trying to de-flood the thing. No power, expensive to drive, not much space.. Hmm my illusion of this being a decent car has quickly been destroyed. HAHAHA.

:p lol. Iv got this shitty mx5 for daily ;0 and a almost dead clio.. and the JZX comes back out to play tomorrow..

    The weird thing though..

    MX5 Insurance 1.8 Eunos cost me £1000+.. RX8 (Noted as a 2.6 to Insurance) £660..

Go figure! They just make these numbers up..

That being said, its a really nice chassis dude. Shame about the fuel economy, startup problems, reliability...list goes on lol

Yes, but its all automatic and really only the internet that confuses the matter. It's a shame the rotary scene has been destroyed by so much politics and bullshit in the UK as the cars are awesome. The Rx7, 8 and Mx5 chassis make Nissans feel like driving a bus, just a shame the Rotary engines need a bit more love (and driving skill as they have bugger all torque in low revs). When they are singing at high revs there's nothing that compares to a Rotary.

If the same amount of resources were allocated to developing the rotary, they would be awesome. But no one has made any effort to improve them since they were first developed. Shame :(

I can only imagine how amazing a high revving rotary would be compared to my straight 6 diesel turbo...with the throttle response of a small planet...nothing nothing nothing, boost, dead , change gear.

I really wouldnt worry about what oil you put in it, as it sounds like the engine is blown, I wouldnt waste any money servicing it if I was you.

And you wonder why the RX-8 is so cheap when you find adverts like this on eBay:
