So I went through a puddle that was too deep on Xmas eve which ended up in my 530d taking in water and 'hydrolocking' my engine. After some googling/ebaying I found 'Global Engines' who were offering £1495 and 7-10 working days to put in a recon engine and take my engine in PX. So I called them to check that that was the right engine and price for my car. They confirmed it and it got collected the next day. (Sunday 12th January).

On the Monday I called them to check that it had got there ok and all was going ahead - Fine

On Wednesday 22nd I called them for an update because it had been 7 working days. They said that they quoted me 7-10 days so it will get done in 10. Bit rude but fine.

The week after that they called me asking me if I had got the car sorted out yet. Even though the car had now been with them for over 10 days, they weren't even aware of what vehicles they had. So I told them they had it and they said it wasn't even on the ramps yet. Excellent.

I called them yesterday and spoke to one of the technicians who said the boss wasn't but the car was done so I should call back tomorrow. I told them to get the boss to phone me.

Now he has just phoned me saying its done. But he said its £2000 plus £300 for injectors and £20 of diesel. This is apparently because its a newer engine in my car than the one that he initially quoted me. And it needed three new injectors. I argued with him to no avail and he ended up hanging up on me.

I don't know what to do. But surely this isn't ok? I never okayed any amount above £1500. I'm borrowing the money to get this done anyway let alone another £800. Any advice will be helpful. All I have is the receipt from the recovery man who got it to them. No other paperwork has changed hands.

    Thanks,

    Joe

Is the price for the engine recon on their website ?
If so it gives you little bit more of a case, as without any written paperwork your kinda screwed

I was correct they just change the name they use a template website and simiple change the name and colours same company as mr engines, engines uk ect ect.

What they done to you was there normal trick. But if it runs your doing very well as most people got there car back minus the engine

Excellent. This will be interesting then. Does that give me more or less hope in getting it resolved. I'm just on The C.A. website now.

Best option is citizens advice as said and call to trading standards should be on your list

No spare key unfortunately. That thought had crossed my mind. Just reading through the C.A.B. stuff and i'm not sure how much it will be in my favour if there is no written quote. Fingers crossed the newspapers are listening in to my calls. hmmm

Trading standards don't take individual cases. Will have to go through C.A.B. first. Thanks for your help so far. :dw:

trading standards are a waste of time. I think you will just have to pay it and put it down as a lesson learnt.

    What age is your car?

Get the V5 and get down to BMW, they'll sort you out with a new key.

Pop along in the dead of night and get the car back.
IF they have fixed it then pay them.
