Hi All, Having bit of trouble deciding on tyre size would a 235/40/17 go onto a 17"10J rim I dont want loads of stretch, or would a 255/40 17 be a better option? Do they road slick type tyres tend to run wide? Thanks
Thanks theres a look I want to achieve similar to the pic below but its hard to get across what I want to achieve as its a lot of money to spend and get it wrong, I want it to look as close to that tyre fit maybe a tiny amount of stretch
245 on front, 225/45 on rear All tyres differ slightly though and I have heard the federals are slightly different to what they say the should be so 235 might be a bit much.
Normal Federals and Nankangs stretch really well but the tyres you have selected are the more track focused versions wich will have a stiffer sidewall wich is not very good at all.
I run 215/40/17 on a 9.5j no issues, RSR's too, went on no bother. there is little to no stretch on the OP choice
RSR's do have a stuff side wall, be effort to fit over normal road tyres, but once they're on they'll be great and tidy bit of stretch won't be the end of the world (if it is just a tiny bit) but well fitting straight side walls would look better and more like the photo you like as above
Im running a 225/40/18 RSR on a 9.5j, its less stretch than a normal tyre as they are slighty squarer on the profile.
Thats what I thought, and I don't mind , I think I'm trying to achieve the impossible fitting a 10j with a road style slick like the pic I posted but getting it on standard arches may have to just fit them then see what it sits like, its on a spec 1 R33 GTST, also I don't have the car yet as its still on the boat.....
One problem is that i have not found all tyres to be equal in width. I ran 235/40/17 maxxis maz1 on a 10j rim and they only had a small amount of stretch fitted very well and looked good. Now i have Nankang NS2 (not r) in 235/40/17 and they are noticeably narrower than the maxxis, in fact on the 10j rim there is loads of stretch. Going back to the OP, if Nankang are all the same width they may not be wide enough.
