AWSOME thread!!! ive been following this thread for quite some time and love what you have done with your FC. ive just got my FC running and just need to fix a few more things but i was just wondering if you deleted the power steering yourself and was it much hassle? and what are those Mesh wheels you have they would look awsome on my black FC. Dude i know theres a few different ways to install the Temp guage but what did you do? did you thread a whole near the waterpump.

haha thx man, and I have been body filling them for the past year XD Thought I finally have to do this properly.
Thx man, ill look into helper springs :)
    Their still cheap, grab one!
Yes, intentions, more power, very boost. such power, wow.
The filler shouldn't crack on the bonnet.
Hey man! My FC came without PS, its the non PS rack. These mesh wheels are actually chevrolet wheels! Will probably find them cheap enough on ebay, aaaaaand yes I drilled and tapped a hole near the waterpump, I'm using a mechanical gauge too. Works good. If you want a picture of where I drilled the hole, let me know. :)

These pictures might be in the wrong order but hopefully it should more or less make sense! Let's start off with this, bonnet is smoothed and had a quick coat of primer.

Extended some S14 arms for Josh, then gave them a quick lick of paint!

Mate came over in his NA recently too! We lowered it a bunch and rolled the arches. Later that day got alignment too, obligatory squad photo :wack:

While I primered the bonnet I also hit the rear arch just so it doesn't rust for a while! I still need to give him some more massaging and then some body filler :smash:

After getting everything ready, sorta, brakes bled, seat in, hydro mounted in new place and so on. I gave it a quick wash before I packed it up for the weekend.

Fast forward to Buxton time ! Decided I'll do the full weekender this time, good idea in the end. Still quite cheap-ish! £92 worth of fuel, £30 a day for driving. Not too bad, great fun. My hydro is wank so I ended up not using it pretty much all weekend, while also getting used to the hubs. Was quite fun. I'll drop a load of pictures now :smokin:

    Hard parking with Josh!

    ......

All the oil out of Chris's car ended up on my front end :wack: haha, his engine is on the edge of its life (170k miles). Smoking a lot, using litres of oil, even after changing valve steam seals. But no worries, I'm pretty sure hes putting swapping engines out this weekend :smash::dw:

After a great weekend at buxton, not crashing, nor breaking anything. Apart from the fuel pump being a cunt on saturday morning! I ended up short wiring it straight to the battery... straight after that it was all fine throughout the rest of the weekend. Cruising back home.

Came back home, washed the car the next day!

Now here's were it gets interesting, this weekender was the last for the rotary. This engine has served me well since sept 2014 and to this day it's still going strong! But now I'm at a stage where I'd like a bit more power, of course I could get more power out of the rotary. But it wouldn't be cheap, nor driveable. I really want to daily drive the FC again, but when I'm spending over a £100 a week just for fuel getting to work it's not quite working out for me! So new engine of choice will be a 4 four cylinder turbo, more precisely the B6ZE out of a MK1 Mazda MX5. Nice little engine with great potential, the lightness of the engine will maintain the great balance of the FC, compared to like a straight six or a V8 swap. The turbo of choice will be a T28, easy enough to get and will be good enough for what I need. Managing all this will be a Megasquirt MS2. That's all I'll say for now, I'll let the story unfold as I'm progressing with the engine swap and updating this thread. But don't worry, the 13B isn't going anywhere. I will keep that engine, and will use it in another project :cool:

Engine making it's way out the car!

I raised the car around 80mm all round so I can push it round the driveway easily and be able to put a jack under it too without an issue.

I also put my other Nardi on for now, I get real anal about touching my suede nardi! And seeing I will be moving the car a lot with dirty hands and getting in and out the car a lot I thought I'll take it out for now.

That's how the car is sitting now. I took the engine, gearbox etc out. And waiting for the new engine, which I will have on saturday! Then I can start getting it in and making mounts and so on.

In the mean time I have made new fuel lines, the standard fuel lines run along the other side. This would mean with the new engine they would be on the hot side, running right above the downpipe and so on. I didn't want that risk. Hence new fuel lines where the best option.

That's it for now! Thanks for reading, and there should be more updates soon! SAFE!!

always on the look out for one but not seen any cheap ones ... can not believe your swapping engines out :/ for a mx5 engine wouldnt you be better off with a straight 6 ?

    I like that you're doing the NA6 swap :)
Saw an FB/SA22 with the same done and was RATHER tempted!

Should give you bomb proof reliability too, just shame to lose the brap.
Maybe someone can put the Rotary in the MX5 and do a swap ;)

hahah :D Interested to see the results, I have to admit I didnt really like any of the NA engines I owned.. I recall the idea of fitting a 13b NA just to get rid of the gutless thing haha.

I think it's good thinking to stick a turbo MX lump in there bro, you're exactly right in that it's going to be bomb proof and should maintain the same feel and balance. Thinking outside the box [emoji41]

Circa 200hp will make this such a lovely car to skid, if seeing you skid it currently is anything to go by! Plus mx lumps are throwaway items considering how cheap they are.

Eliza needs that brap brap in hers [emoji6]

It's fun to see how a car in bad condition can look cool when it's a drift car. I don't know how to explain it but it gives the car a sort of soul and I like it!

I just think I could look even more awesome with a front and rear bumper to suit the sideskirt!

nah, straight six's are far heavier I imagine. And more expensive, not about that life :p
haha I'm keeping the rotary for the future, I will use it in another project ;)
haha yeah man I'm looking forward to seeing how this all turns out as well. And I guess people usually want something that they haven't got! haha, putting my 13B into an MX5 could be a thing one day!
Should be good man! And I can't wait to have a bit more power, will make Anglesey a lot more fun this year. :smokin:
haha thx man, that beat up character. ^^ And a kit might be a thing in the future!

    Update -

So firstly, put the FC and MX5 gearboxes together. Swapped out a few parts and made 1 good box out the two. :smash:

Got Mat's MX5 in for body kit repair and a full respray, I had to take a photo when the car was all white! (primer) haha. B6ZE friends

I got some parts in the post, turbo manifold tubing

Had to lay off the work on the FC for a week or so while I got the MX5 done. Here's the result, I think it came out great !

After that I finally had time to mock up some engine mounts to get the engine sitting where I want. I aligned the engine so it's nice and central, then I tacked up the mount on one side, got it all welded up and boxed up. Then the same for the other side the next day. ;)

    And the other one :D

Engine all mounted now and solid, mocking up the manifold will be next :smash:

Also Mat gave me this cool little turbo timer he found in his garage, cool lil thing :D

Aaaand a random photo, sorting out the headlights and panel gaps is a high priority on the list after the engine's done :wack:

thanks man! And nooo I don't think the car will be ready by then. :/
^^ Thanks fam! I'm super excited to get it out on track again too! Can't wait to see how it does.
yeaaaaa!:smokin: Should be cool once its all done

    Bit of an update -

Painted RB rocker covers for a friend from down south :smash:

Just rotated the turbo and put the flange on to start mocking up the position of the turbo and flange location on the manifold.

Started making my manifold too! Sort of realised that the tubing I bought its quite maybe a bit too thick! XD Well at least it might prevent cracking in the future. Anyway, after hours of cutting, grinding, aligning it sort of looks like it could work.

So I threw some tack welds on just to see how it looks on the engine. I will weld it up fully soon, I will then mock up the flange with the turbo and finish it off.

Also while dad took over the garage for a day I couldn't do much, so decided to strip down the intake manifold and give it some paint lovin'. I also got my injectors today too! Thanks to Dave from Minty fresh!:thumbs::thumbs:
Overall turned out great! I really like the OEM clean as fuck look on certain parts,
tomorrow I just want to spray up the fuel rail in candy and I'll be able to put it back together.

Because, as he mentioned, he wanted more power, cheaply and reliably. Throwing a turbo at the 13B NA will likely not be cheap, nor reliable and putting a 13B Turbo in it as a swap isn't cheap.

Turbo MX5 engines are pretty bomb proof and powerful so it's what he wants to do :)

This is one think i have planned in my car ventures, RX7FC > MX5 turbo engine. Perfect looking map car and bombproof engine.

Steam pipe manifold :) doing the same on my Saab-Escort build, haven't even tacked it up yet, love this car the FC looks class and this is a brilliant build, can't wait to see what it's like with the new engine, was never sold on rotary's.

Not really worth turboing mine due to the high compression of the NA engine.
    Thx man!
    exactly that! Thx
    Yes!
Thx man! And good luck on your manifold ! :smash:

    - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - -

"Finished" the manifold, basically it ended up fucking up a bit. As even though the manifold was tacked to a super thick piece of metal when welding it somehow managed to warp really bad. Enough for it not to even go on the engine, I could probably drill out the holes and skim it. But I don't like how that manifold came out in general hence why I'm making another one... Back to the drawing board!

Got some new seats for the FC though! Their matching and really comfortable, should be great for dailying and track :smokin:

Next on the list, was mocking up the intercooler and radiator placement. Since I want to do a V-mount setup, I felt I needed to get this part pretty spot on in order for it to work properly. I mounted up the intercooler first, then followed by the radiator. Quite happy with how they both fit atm and with some sheet metal ducting it should work really well. Here's some pictures:

Also it's been super sunny lately! And the daily Renault hasn't got any sun visors. :smokin: Sooooo it just happened that I had this drift matsuri sunstrip laying around which shortly made its way on to the clio ! haha, looks good actually. Just need to rear wheel drive it, but I'll do that later. Gonna try and make the FC work for now.

Also! Even though my car's off the road I still managed to get some track time! Went down with my sister to Teesside for her first drift day and managed to get a spot as an additional driver ^^ The MX5 handles really nice, and my sister did really well for her first day.

Harness bar I made the night before the drift day. Works well, just needs paint.!

Thanks for reading, and see you at the next update!
