Waddup, so I sold my black mx5 (pictured below) because it wasn't practical enough. I did intend on having another little break from drifting and getting something actually sensible, but I managed to convince myself that my pal Jake's 328 was the best of both worlds, so I bought that. {} So this is what I bought - {} {} {} Current spec is as follows- M50 manifold Standard air box with K&N panel filter Mishimoto silicone intake pipe ASC throttle body delete Remapped ECU with raised rev limit Scorpion back box with decat pipes Metal thermostat housing 318 small case welded diff (unfortunately with 1.8 shafts.. more on this later) Solid flywheel conversion Z3 short shift Braided clutch line Prosport coilovers (eBay specials i think) Adjustable top mounts Polybushed rear subframe Rear shock mount strengthening plates Poly front diff mount Some kind of cut hubs, they feel nice though and plenty of lock. E46 lower arms Braided brake lines Hydro y0 Superforma PCD adapters Staggered Buddyclub P1's 17x8 17x9 And let's not forget all of the super luxurious items like working air con, reversing sensors, proper alarm with auto locks, rear blind, full standard leather interior. {}
I've not done much with it so far. Just a few little bits. I'm trying to work on a 'break it and replace it' (or improve it) type motto with this car, as I usually tend to get carried away with pointless things, and my seat time suffers because of it. It had a strange running issue when I bought it, so I replaced the crank sensor and fuel filter, and some of the M50 vac lines. Was the crank sensor that solved it in the end! Wazzed an M sport splitter on it too. Did my first skid day in it a couple of days ago at the Rockingham paddock day. Was a good laugh, well organised and the surface (fortunately for me) was very forgiving on tyres. I had only brought 3 pairs with me. Wasn't much to prep so I just got the car aligned and the front wheels balanced (more for the added comfort on the drive up than anything). Had a few issues on the day. First one being when I went to remove my rear wheels and stick the skid wheels on. The Superforma internal drive wheel nuts are ****! I assume it had previously been gunned up and when I went to undo one of the nuts with the usual hand tools it just opened right up.. so with the help from my pals we smashed the nut off and were very careful with the others for the rest of the day. Never much been a fan of BMW's but I do understand the hype now. The car ran absolutely fine all day, and felt like it had plenty of power! I just need a bit more practice at the wheel to make full use of it. Towards the end of the day on a clutch kick entry I managed to snap a driveshaft.. so that was the end of my day. Drove the 134 miles home in 1 wheel drive which wasn't anywhere near as bad as I was expecting. No track photos yet but here's one I took on the day- So yeah, working with my 'break it and replace/improve it' motto, i've bought some Driftworks wheel nuts to replace my ones made of butter, and some eccentric caster bushes for the E46 arms, as I only had 3 degrees of caster all day! I'm thinking i'll probably just swap to a 325 medium case diff and shafts. I can't be bothered with the hassle of getting small case stuff modified to be stronger, and I really doubt i'll miss this 4.5k rpm motorway cruising anyway.. That's all for now. Thinking i'll try and book the pod day for November or maybe Norfolk. See how it goes.
Good stuff Grant. Think i'll be heading down the same bmw route after various Sbodies have killed all funds.
I'm enjoying it man, a few little refinements (that's what they all say) and it'll be sick. Even the OG s-body guys seem to appreciate a tidy 36 so i'll be happy knowing i'm not a complete loser.
Bits from Driftworks arrived. Bling chav gold wheel nuts to replace the soft ones and Black series eccentric bushes for 46 arms. Booked another drift day with the pals. Three Sisters in December, should be cool!
Subbed [emoji106] Car looks smart, will keep an eye out for it at three sisters [emoji1][emoji41] Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
Thanks guys. Not sure what it's worth mate. Going to remove it Friday evening. Has a chip in it and is also flexing in the middle a little. Also for some reason it looks like my photos aren't showing any more?? Photobucket sucks. Will fix this using Flickr soon.
Don't suppose you not what the spoiler is originally from? Or what make it is if it's for an E36? Why would you sell it? Looks cool with it on there, don't see many with a decent roof spoiler.
It's the boot spoiler that i'm going to remove. Just not feeling it mate. Roof spoiler is staying. It's from Unique Customs i think.
My bad, must of misread that bit, Ye fuck the boot spoiler off. I'll check out unique customs then, I thought their one was a lot more rounded and slightly longer, I'll look. Either way, cars looking smart.
Haven't really done much. Whacked another small case drive shaft in to replace the snapped one. I still need to build up a small case with medium case shafts but can't really be bothered to do anything at the moment. Caster bushes have made a nice difference though. Took a drive to Cheddar Gorge the other day mainly because i wanted to walk on top of it but it was a decent photo opportunity too. {} {} {} {}
That is a seriously nice car, K1's go hand in hand with lowered E36's. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
