Hi all, thought I'd start a build thread for my S13, as I've never logged a build before and thought you might all find it interesting.

I bought an s13 when I was 16 (11 years back) and put an RB25 in it. Loved that car to bits but the shell rusted pretty bad and I had to start uni, so I broke it for bits.

Well I missed it, so I bought another now I've finished uni. I've always wanted either an RB26 or a 2JZ in an s-body, so I'm currently making that happen...

When I bought the car it had an SR20 in it. That was the first thing to come out IMG-20170808-WA0013. IMG-20170808-WA0011.

    IMG-20170625-WA0046.

Once that was out, the engine bay reared its ugly head... It was skanky to say the least.
    IMG-20171025-WA0022. IMG-20171029-WA0021.
So I stripped the loom out
    IMG-20171029-WA0022.

Then cut and welded a few bits and bobs

    IMG-20171113-WA0010. 20180111_202229.

Then used a lot of seam sealer to hide my sins

    IMG-20180111-WA0025. 20180111_212331.
    Then prep and primer
    IMG-20180314-WA0036. IMG-20180314-WA0035.
Then paint. Satin black ftw... I'm a firm believer that posh coloured engine bays stay nice for about nine minutes, and then just looks shit.

Once painted I got the loom and everything back in and the wings back on

I managed to source a 2j, R154 and ACT six puck + some mounts
    20180604_214022. 20180604_220752.
It's become apparent that I'm going to have to go single turbo before the engine goes in due to the twins clashing with the brake servo/clutch cylinder etc, so I'm waiting on a manifold, holset and all the other shit I'll need.

I'll keep this updated whenever anything changes, and try to be as thorough with problems that I'm having to work through as possible to help anyone else thinking of doing this swap.

Cheers man. I really don't like 4 pots. Just preference I guess... It is good spec for a base though definitely!

why is it a shame the SR came out? 2jz better in every way possible.

Very cool build, looking forward to seeing this progress. where did you get your engine from, id love a 2jz but they are getting pricey, especially r154s.

Thanks man! I got it from Japwest Mods in Surrey. I've heard mixed reviews of pallet import engines, so hopefully everything is mint. But if not, i'm sure it will be after some fettling.

I can't wait to get a holset strapped to the side of it. Should be good fun!

Well its not.... Not lighter, not the correct length for the car, not the correct weight distribution. Bit of a general carthrottle statement that

While i do agree with you that those factors make the engine a worse power unit for the car, having put an RB25 in an S13 previously, none of those things are an issue... my RBS13 was better in every way than when it had a 4-pot.

Good progress Josh. Did you investigate the radiator/viscous ideas?

I did Dylan, and despite your advise, i'm going to go with a tucked rad, make a cowelling for the front so that air has nowhere to go but through the rad, and then strap two of the biggest, highest flowing fans i can to the back of the rad.

Failing that, i will go back to viscous. I just hate viscous fans. they look ugly and sap precious powerz

I still don't know what turbo/manifold setup to run. I'm torn between a T3 6Boost with an hx35, or a cast (SPA or similar T4) with an HX40.

I'm looking for like 450-500bhp ideally... not sure if the HX35 would run out of puff? Also, tubular manifolds are a pain as they crack.

    So a little update.

I've found that where he engine has been sat for a while, there is some corrosion on the cams etc. Need to investigate further as to whether the bored are fucked etc and how far I will have to rebuild it. :smash::no:

To be honest, the JZ is better. That's the simple answer. Takes more power etc, prefers to rev high.

Thanks man, will update soon. Rebuilding the 2j :(

So, a quick update... Shit has gotten out of hand o_O I'll update with pictures soon.

Basically, i bought some bits for the 2J....

    - 3.4l Billet Crank (9.5:1 compression)
    - GSC S1 Camshafts
    - Eagle billet con rods
    - Manley Forged Pistons
    - BC Valve springs and titanium retainers
    - BC valve collets
    - Driftmotion modified oil pump
    - Water pump
    - HKS Cambelt
    - Full engine gasket set
    - APEXI Power FC for 1JZ VVTi

There's probably a ton i've forgotten... But i'll post pictures when it all arrives.

Then it's off to the machine shop to get the engine built, and in the meantime i'm going to buy and install a fuel system.

So i figured it was time for some updates.

In choosing a radiator for a 6-pot, i was conscious that i didn't have the most room available. I didn't want to space frame the car or tube it, because i like to be able to get an MOT without too many questions. I ended up going for a Chase Bays tucked radiator with twin 1750 Mishimoto fans.

This radiator was preferable to me because it fits in the gap under the bonnet shut. I figured i could make some cowelling so that air has nowhere to go, but through the rad. I also had to modify the lower panel to make it fit: Radiator Clearance. Radiator fitted.

    rAD FANS 2.

    Bay gold tape.
