Watching builds like yours and seeing you keep your nose in it grinding out the work helps me keep my fire lit since my build is on standby atm. Dither on, I love it

Love seeing updates on this thread that level of metalwork scares the shit out of me so really interesting to see it done step by step.

I'd say a lot of people don't comment just to keep the thread tidy so they don't have to read boring posts like this one :D

I guess people just hit a like button now instead of comment? Forums are really slowing down from what I've seen which is a shame. Great work on this, I bet you can't wait to have a 100% clean platform to build up soon.

Yeah i think social media has killed the forums off.

Oh man I absolutely can not wait to work on the car with spanners and sockets rather than a grinder and fucking welder.

I used to get a few comments on my updates but not so much anymore so I'm unsure if people are actually interested as well!

For what it's worth this my favorite build thread on this forum and I'm super jealous of your workshop haha. Reading this always makes me wish I was doing a proper build, but yeah really looking forward to each update, always a good read

Yeah i just wasnt sure. But it would seem a few people are watching so i will continue. I also try and make it intern and entertaining to read. Not sure how well i do but i enjoy writing it.

Thanks man the workshop is a god send. Between 2 of us really isnt that expensive either. Trust me man the stress of a “proper build” is ridiculous. As is the cost haha.

Had a few hours on the car on Friday.

I spent some time primering the rollcage with an epoxy primer.
    BB41DB53-D5AD-483A-9A16-DAECD506BEC9.

I then took the plunge of putting the car up on its side. Scary shit. So with the help of some rachet straps, the unit wall and a trolly jack. I set too it.
    FA7695F6-A9DE-4323-AA41-9A7AA5B77122.

Then eventually got it all the way.
    6411650A-0DC8-4FE5-9814-9617D3054FD7.

Got a few extra straps on it and spent some time with the danger wheel on the grinder starting to strip the bottom.
    5810DC76-6F38-4393-AB66-5A0237649860.

Turns out it takes fucking ages and hurts your arms like a bitch.
    29B652E5-A929-48D9-9CE7-952028EC7293.
Got a bit stripped and figured i don’t actually have much welding to do at all.

I didn’t get a lot done but now i have a game plan.

So i smashed my phone. So the photos are dog shit atm. Ive had my phone kinda fixed. Its better but not perfect, however it was done after I’d taken these photos.

I’ve had a stock flywheel for a while, but it needed a skim and i hadnt had time to do it. So i knocked the dowels out and chucked it on a lathe at work.
    Went from this.
    3DB2F868-1FBA-42ED-BC04-CBC9F81E437F.

    To this.
    B60D67ED-AE6A-401F-A44C-585E7DB36F20.
    So thats ready to go.

I didnt take many photos because my phone was fucked but here is a few.
    85F0E377-EDE7-49F7-B659-03F7E3F74BB6.

Chopped a section of rot out of the chassis rail.

Then i cleaned up and treated inside the chassis rail.
    300BF2B0-5828-457B-BA96-CA914ABA8ED0.

I then cut and bent up a new pannel to go in.
    D1B32F6B-9DB1-4E28-B59B-718D5C44B47E.
    Then welded it in.
    C94B566B-D42B-4C0C-B0A6-260BCD214356.

I then found another section of rust on the floor pan.

    E29EB25C-8ACB-46CD-993A-5525DE3172CB.

So i started to chop it out.
    3F13FB28-0249-4B3C-A67D-8DD934C7128C.

    E21F8C53-D2AF-4ACC-BE2F-AD1576132BD5.

I then cleaned it up. Treated it and made a new pannel to go in.
    E76C74AB-3D75-41FA-AACC-EB71A6AAAD81.

Shit photos i know. Cleaned the welds up and treated everything.

I then cut another couple of section out the drivers chassis rail.
    3A480622-D0D6-46B9-A6BE-DF86EA3271D1.

Cleaned everything up and treated inside the chassis rails then made new pannels and welded them in.
    392742FB-BB5B-4F49-8038-4FF66AB6E6D5.

Now. This was a significant moment. Because this was the last of the welding that needed to be done as far as i am aware. So 18 months later and a million man hours the car is welded.

It made me happier than i can explain. I am sorry the photos are so shit but hopefully they will be better now my phone is sorted.

So the next step is to wire wheel the whole underside and primer, seam sealer and gravitex everything. Then its time to put the car back on the ground. Bare with me. Coming soon haha.

Looking sweet! Can’t wait to see it come together now it’s welded! What do you use to treat the rust out of interest? Started my e36 project and assuming I’m gonna find some patches here and there

So went and worked at the last round of BDC. It was an awesome event.
    3AD58264-F245-4EAC-B3CC-823EB7A48CEB.

Went back up the workshop on Friday. Started with the important things. Getting some new workshop decoration put up.
    411B5DFC-0A3E-4CBB-AAD6-67B8BC7AA5C1.
    EA04B04E-3ED0-4A2A-90FB-AAA38D4E6B80.
    A6EF3E21-64B4-4321-9083-151B81D19CFB.

    Obviously vitally important haha.

Then it was onto the tedious job of wire wheeling. Now this is a job that seems to takes masses and masses of time with very little to show you guys on here so its only a short update this week.
    28F6BA3F-7CB7-48D9-87E4-CE9D82096C98.

    The tool of choice.

This was the result of about 4 hours work.
    9A8675CC-1323-4C80-8672-40979090281E.

I then treated all the seams with rust treatment. Let it dry and put some epoxy primer on what i had stripped.
    EA6574C4-A59B-440C-BC01-6A63612DC03B.

That photo was after the first light coat. I put a second heavier coat on and that was that for the day.

I’ve Got a free weekend this weekend as the boss (mrs) is away and i have nothing else planned. So me and Adam are going to try and break the back of this job. Maybe even get it done if we can. However we may be a little distracted because we are also off to pick Adams 15 up from mapping.

    1F94116C-50F7-4860-B0AE-C5D7D16B88F9.

Its been on the rollers and has made 504bhp at 1.6 bar. With 480 ftlbs of torque.

    Till next week fuckers
