Howdy, I thought I would share my Z31 project with you lovely lot. After years of looking and lusting, I finally got hold of a Z31 Fairlady. It's a 1988 UK specification car (manual, turbo, diff cooler, cruise control) and it's in pretty decent condition for it's age. The underside is surprisingly alright! The boot lid has some nasty rust underneath the spoiler so me and a good friend are looking at making a carbon fibre replacement. {} {} {} {} The car comes with an identical 'spares car'. UK car, built in the same factory just a month later. The car is also in really good condition! The only thing missing from it is a prop shaft and a dizzy cap. I'm a bit confused as to what to do with this car, but at the moment I am thinking about restoring it and just garaging it somewhere. For starters, I've decided to go down the S13 subframe route. The benefits will enable the car to get shot of the trailing arms and take use of a multi-link system so it'll unlock far more options for performance/serviceable parts. Dropped the subframe out... {} I think these shocks have seen better days. {} While I waited for the subframe and diff, I starting pulling the rear end apart and started the body restoration. As expected, every single stud snapped off on the rear bumper and someone had put the rear lights back in place with a load of bathroom silicone at some point so they were a complete PITA to get out. {} Eventually got around to remove all the surface rust and POR-15'd the rear end. {} Took the diff cooler off, cleaned it up and gave it a fresh coat of paint. {} The brackets for it had seen better days. They're now freshly painted and drying on my washing line, but for the time being, you can see the comparison. {} The S13 subframe is here! {} And, as per usual, my assistant was alongside the whole day... {} Gave the S13 subframe a good ole wire brushing off. Just waiting on the S13 LSD now and poly bushes for the control arms and then I can paint the rest and get it fitted! {} Going to need to start looking at brake set up options. I'm thinking about going for a set of R33 Brembos all round, but I'll need some advice from someone has to how I can make that happen with the S13 diff. I also need two rear 5 stud hubs if anyone can help...
Managed to source a full rear brake set up from a R33 Skyline. {} {} Also... 300mm 4 pot R34 Skyline brakes up the front. {} Will respray the calipers gloss red with the Nissan logo in white. Rear end poly bushes are nearly all done. Arch extensions turned up today so I offered them up... {} {} {}
I've had lot going on and been pretty busy so my build thread has been neglected, but for the time being, this summarises where I'm up to now...
Cool to see another Z31. I've had mine for about 10 years now. Have you finished the S13 subrame conversion? How easy was it to do? Did it line up with the original mounting holes? Any pics? Thanks
You're talking my language. As you can see from the lengths I went to to pick this one up, I've always loved the Z31. The ad for this car had a video attached of it driving through the forest. After watching it I already knew I was buying it lol. Awesome to hear from another Z31 owner. Yes buddy, S13 conversion is all done now. None of the pins fit so the rear pins need to be relocated on the car and extenders welded to the subframe for the fronts. There should be some pics in this thread, but if there aren't, I can post some. Yea, I was under no illusions picking up a 30 year old Nissan. It actually didn't look too bad, but my needle gun had other ideas....
Hello, I’m new to the platform. I love the 300zx and I have no clue where to buy one so if you see this pleas help me. Thank you
