The weather is being a bit grim so thought I would share what I have been up to the last month.. You might recognise the car from the previous thread, as its taken a different direction now I thought I would start fresh. The car was bought, some paint slapped on then a few basics like diff, rack and coilovers. Was running a 2l pinto on bike carbs and 4 speed box.. It was all pretty good until when I was facking about with the carbs one day I forgot tho bonnet pins.. Didnt do too much damage, creased the bonnet, the real prob was the fact the force of it going up revealed a crusty bulkhead.. Had a few plans in my head so took it off the road and started stripping it and preparing it for proper engine.. Pinto was put on egay and snapped up sharpish, allowing me to get myself a 20v blacktop needing a bottom end... Still in relative early stages at the moment, hoping to get the fabrication all done for xmas then bang some cash on the engine, getting it on the road for '09.. Heres some pics, starting with how it was before...... {} How it was when it was working, rocking out with Topi's old sil80 {} At donny, when the pinto couldn't handle the stress {} After bonnet hicup.. starting to remove engine {} The bonnet damage.. doh {} Some chopping later.. {} {} {} Hmmm... was a bit deep in filler then..
{} LH engine mount {} Other side {} Front panel chopage for new rad {} Beemer rad in place {} {} Staring on inside {} {} Peeling floors off! {} {} {} New metal going in {} Working out lengths of tubing needed for new cage {} Currently I am finishing the drivers side floors and sills.. Battling the cold and rain in the gazebo Life would be so much easier with a garage! Should have some more interesting pics soom of the cage build and tunnel etc Cheers
Shit that's some rust! All hidden before bonnet crash? Apart from that it is just an amazing car! And a screaming 4age will be just right for it
Yes!!! Liking the idea man of the 20v, get these engines good and it will be screaming 11,00,0000rpm Braaaaaaaaa aaaaaa aaaaappp!!!!!!! Have a PM with Simon86 and 20vWill on here they may have some bits for you
Proper Remember you need your own gearbox at some point haha. I'll head over in a moment, and I'll be quicker than you could be - because I weigh less. Unluckyyyy.
Skillz. Bit of luck that bonnet went- that shell was as rotten as a pear. You would not have wanted a stack in that.
I have seen much much much worce when ive helped repair/restore these things at my m8s garage, thats not too bad for its age imo, usual place too O/T SELL ME IT YOOOO COONT! awsome project m8, just dont let topi have a go keep up the work, i will have one someday soon (cheating 4door tho)
Whatever Whorey, its basically my car but yellow and with some more bars and RPMzzz. It's gonna rock out, people are gonna bleed in their heads when they hear us.
class work lad, keep it up. you should have brill handling with that weight distribution. pinto wasnt doin you any favours on that front.
Done a bit more last week, slowly getting the floors all solid, ready to stick the cage in and get some paint in it.... found more rust... {} Bit of primer on the drivers side to stop the new metal rotting away.. {} Drivers side inner sill {} Drivers footwell starting to come together {} Some chisel shizzle to get the passenger floor out {} {} Peeling it off like a big sardine tin {} Peeled off, starting on the front {} More plated shit {} all stripped back to the original floors.. not bad for nearly 30 {} Rubbed rear section down as it was pretty good and got some primer on.. {} {} some holes in bulkhead sealed, got the good bits back to shiney metal ready to prime.. {} {} Bit more primer on Not a huge amount to do in the floors now, my list for next couple of weeks is.. os inner rear sill ns front floor repairs seat rails new cage feet fabricated tunnel on passenger side (+exhaust tunnel) Cheers
