Bit more over the weekend.. got a bit fricked over by the weather but managed to start on the cage:)

A bit of bracing to tie in the chassis rails, turrets and x-member. Will running the rear diagonals into these....
    221108001.
    221108005.

    First diagonal in..
    221108006.

    Making the rear X
    221108007.

Cage all built to start on door bars etc..
    221108008.

Drivers door bars sorted... Tacked at each end but fully welded in the middle so it can be removed, fitted to the car and then fully welded
    231108005.

Rear triangulation from doorbars to rear welded in..
    231108008.

Weather stopped play unfortunatly but the plan is to crack on with it on Fri/Sat/Sun and get it in and fully welded:smokin:

You have great skills there my friend.

What parts do you need to change/modify to get the 4age in?

    Cheers dude,

Not alot of work involved to be honest... Bits that need to be fabricated for the swap are/were:

    Sump
    Engine mounts
Gearbox mount (going to use AE86 cradle and mounts
Room for thermostat (or water relocation kit)
Prop (cut and shut escort + AE86)

Could have done it without chopping the bulkhead, but as it was all rusty,I thought to hell with it and shoved the engine back a few inches to do it all properly.

Its not been to hard at all and the fact that AE86s are the same general layout as an escort means it is quite easy to just adapt bits to fit:nod:

    Cheers

Small update from this afternoon..Did the passenger side door bars and rear triangulation bar, also managed to cut all the tack welds off and diss-asemble to put it in the car.

Happy with how it fits, so with a bit of effort tommorow I should have the rear half welded in properly and may even get the rest all welded in by the end of Sunday:)

    Few pics....

    Awesome work there Ed!

Just a question, are you considering triangulating the front turrets as well? since the back end might well be nice and rigid with what you've installed it would make some sence to carry it though to the front end.

Still at university here, stuck at SKF and bored out of my skull

Least it's handy to have on the CV

Cheers mate.. Seeing and hearing yours screaming away got me away from the idea of dirty turbos!!

Got the rear section fettled a bit more and slotted it in. Got the rear all fully welded in now. Hopefully finish the tunnel brace and start on the front half tommorow!

got the rest of the cage and the tunnel brace in today:) Next job will be to make all the gussets to tie in the pillars (think BMW touring car style:smokin:), then stick the front triangulation in.
