    Lol

Mike at the centre of handbags on dw shocker, and he hasn't even argued with anyone yet!

Fwiw it was fun to watch for me, not perfect by any means but good bloody try and seeing the chase car was for ever away doing some grip lap largely irrelevant as to how fast/slow the lead car was going IMO.

Not sure what I've missed here. But I don't see any understeer in that vid at all. Yes an almost stopped backwards entry (which for the record there is no way I could do so not saying I'm any better) but under steer is when you push the front tyres forward when steering one way but the car continues to travel in the forward direction.

There is a lot of tyre sliding going on there but under steer is not one of them.

    Impressive stuff none the less.

LoL, after his backwards is coming to an end, and he comes into the corner, the back wheels start to grip and his front wheels slide and there is too much steering angle so the front pushes on, until it catches in the video around straight ahead steering lock, at that point its back in grip, upto there that is understeer, if it didn't understeer it would have gripped and rotated the car at the corner apex without the rear gripping and bring the front back round, meaning he didn't need to swerve (as the japs call it).

Its complicated but if you look at what is happening its understeering at the end.. people forget that a car can understeer while drifting, its odd, and kinda under and over at same time, but when your driving on a constant arc and you turn in and hte car doesn't respond that is understeer as the car isn't responding, you turn it more and more and it does nothing, understeer while sideways.

I will agree technically you could give it another name, but as its steering input and its breaking traction and not responding in my eyes its understeer and I've always refered to it as that within a drift.

This type of understeer in fast drifting is what catches people out, because they keep addding lock then suddenly it will go over a bump and the dynamics change and it grips for a second on much more turn in then they where expeciting, at which point the car sharply goes onto lock, and they spin the other way because they have to correct...

Really hard to explain, unless you open your mind and watch it and really look you might not get it.

Understanding this part of drifting helps if you say your coming over a jump/bump at speed on lock, if you hold your lock constant over the jump normally back end will bite and fuck you off the track, as you go over, if you turn in so you know your going to land with say 10 degrees too much in a state of oversteer as it lands that pressure of the car landing helps keep the car on constant angle but the trick is to remove it instantly after its done what it needs to do.. something I used to have to do in rallying allot. People that don't do this normally land and flick the other way as there steering suddenly becomes super grip and they die. lol

I've tried to give you a sensible responece and not take the piss, so please think about it, let it swirl around in your head first :) lol

mikes entries looked awsome and hands down great stuff for throwing it in like that.. however i do agree with clarkey on this one..

imo its the same as being the chase car and trying to close up on initiation when the lead car clutch kicks the opposite way early on then flicks back in.. how do you chase that?!! lol (maybe its me)

as was said in briefing not to do that but was still being done, yeh it looks boss and is pretty fucking cool but in comp it dont work cos the chase car always lets them flick then they go straight up and wands it on there door....

normal fast scandi flick looks much more ace when both cars are on it

eitherway i cant do either so meh... :p

Hats off..its awesome! that hairpin is a fucker to get right, it kills a shit-ton of speed!

backwards is for qualifying and not battles (IMO)

Yes IMO the driving in the Nakamura video is perfect, I love that shit.

I must say though after watching that onboard video of Mike although he clearly lost a lot of speed I have actually seen videos of other drivers that did a normal enough entry and lost a load more speed than Mike. I think one actually stopped then just used his big power to do a burnout up the rest of the track, it was pretty horrifying to watch.

Not disagreeing with anyone in this thread just wanted to add that :)

As above normal entries had to scrub just as much speed off to make the corner, its hard to understand just how awkward that corner was without seeing just how much everyone struggled, the course did often look like a handbrake turn into rolling burnout contest.

    That Corners easy
It's the 500hp minimum drag past the gate that's the hard bit although it looked like the judged run stopped before then.

While people can say entries like that should be kept to quali, MAYBE so, but for that corner, an fast and backwards entry like that should be judged higher than one that is slow and no more than about 45deg, which tbh seems to be most of the others.

It's a 180deg bend- You need to hit it at 90deg min to be honest for it not to look like a half donut on the apex, then rolling burnout to exit, which frankly looks properly properly shit.
As said already, due to everyone coming in at such weak angles, most slowed way more than Mike.

And yeah that takes more skill top enter and exit that corner in a really cool looking way than 99% of drift corners, but that's drivers skill at fault, not the corner; shouldn't be making tracks easy just to flatter the drivers over inflated opinions of their skills.

I still don't understand. I've even tried it with two toy cars on my table and it still works. :/
I understand it's a badass entry, I understand it's not necessarily the fastest, and I also understand control and adjustment must be fairly limited, but if two cars do the same thing and are as close as the rotation of the car's length then surely they can't crash, and then we have the greatest twin battle ever? :D

I reckon it's cool, would be fun to do.
Same as cock-out drifting, not really technically right but it's a good laugh.

Just surprised Mike needed more than chopped springs to do it.

Get your toy cars drive them both down the table, Decelerating the cars at the same rate, then stop the car in front and hold it for say a second, the car now occupies the space too long and the car behind will hit it.

For them not to hit the car has to start in the same place at a delay equal to that the car stalls. Really simple.

Can draw you a graph of Deceleration and why the lines would cross/
