As I said already, YB turbo! It's what I'm putting in my mk1, easiest to fit and bang for buck the best aswell!

Agreed. Less hassle, more power, more easily.

I still say sr20 if you want turbo power. I was going to buy an engine, gearbox, wiring loom and ecu all for £900. now you wont get a cossie engine for that price.

You may get a YB for that price, but add another £1500 for a rebuild.
Yes the YB is good and goes almost stright in, but you need to put a lot of money into them.
400bhp+ Zetec turbo will cost almost the same as a YB. A 300bhp Zetec turbo can be done for almost £600 if a bit od diy is done.

SR looks a good price option, i'm looking into this one.

But if money is no problem, why not go BDT.

The list of engine options is endless.

How about this then, Hayabusa V8. It can be turbo'd to 600bhp

It´s all about what you want (NA or Turbo) and what level car are you aiming with it?

If you are satisfied with 300hp with standard engine i´d go for budget friendly SR, but if aiming for more i would serioysly look for other options. Or that YB if thinking that resale value, if aiming at 400hp, forget YB and if ovet that, forget SR too.

Friend of mine that drifts with MK2 broke one YB block and couple heads last season and went for Audi 5-cyl 20V and jerico-style straight cut gearbox for this season, thought that werent bad option

Chevy LS series V8 isn´t bad option ever:D And isn´t heavy.

an audi 5pot would be awesome in an escort, and they sound great.

Another pluss point for the sr is that it is an alloy block so would be lighter which would improve handling.

I personally wouldnt go SR over YB. Although the SR is a very good engine, I actually know someone who fitted a SR to a MK2 Escort and he said it was a nightmare and he would never do it again. Apparentley the sump is the biggest problem.

Has to be YB for me:thumbs: well thats what I'm fitting to my MK1 anyway!

I always had a dream of a Mk2 Escort with a Cossie BOB in it. Sound, fury, torque, smoke, what more can you want? Except power, obviously.

And when choosing right enine for you, it´s wise to think that does any decent gearbox bolt on to your block. Nissan gearbox is quite shit, and cossies T5 isn´t too good either IMO.

Declan Munnelly has more power than that out of a red top vauxhall engine granted he spent the money at the start which has it very reliable

I wouldn't say the T5 isint a good box, I know 2 people drifting 400bhp+ YBs and they are using standard T5s with little or no breakages. You couldn't do that with a SR box.
