Look, if you want to see the extreme danger with side exit exhausts and drifting, here's a youtube video of a drift car with a side exit exhaust.

Notice the hordes of flaming marshalls, babys in prams looking like Simon Weston, and nuclear explosions

He needs to sort out that out straight away! Weak fueling! Aussie touring cars spit flames and they're N/A!

May or may not be true, but I heard they actually deliberatly map in some extra fuel on the overrun on the V8 Supercars I hear just for the flames, as obv flames is always a crowd pleaser.

Sweeeeeps- Quick question, not worth starting a new thread over- In the future, overtakes arent likely to ever be banned in BDC like they are in FormulaD are they? Jus they about the coolest thing in drifting, and thatd be a shame.

I know you pointed this at Sweeps, but as a driver, i feel I have a two-penneth-worth. You are right, overtakes ARE awesome, but I think whether this function will be removed in the future is solely up to the drivers themselves.

Some overtakes are performed cleanly, and awesomely. Some, are not, and can range from just interrupting a drivers line, to downright dangerous. I have seen both in the BDC over the years.

This season, in the drivers briefing, we were given a time and a place for overtaking. Example, Teesside, if the lead driver was OFF the qualifying line, and there was room for a clean overtake, we were encouraged to go for it. This then stopped people from running WAY off the qualifying line as they wanted to hold their own space.

Some tracks we were told that even if there was room, to not overtake. Think this was round 1, donington, can't remember.

So I think it's going to be purely based on the judges, the track they create, and whether there would be room for the overtake. But if drivers start getting dangerous and arsey about judged decisions, we might end up seeing a FormulaD thing here.

for me the overtake should only ever be if the lead driver is way off line!
the lead car is ALWAYS supposed to run the qualifin line, and what id like to see is when the lead car runs a differnt line but the
chase car runs the quali line, the chase driver gets a massive advantage, even tho it may look like the lead car has pulled away!

tbh this rule has pissed me off a little bit as i designed the fuel cell in the rear of my car to be sunken low into the car! hench the side exit! tho make a rear exit with enough clearance will be mass work not just new exhaust! and then i have a whole in my rear 1/4 and floor! if it doesnt change it might mean not compeating in 2013 in the s13! im not moaning just saying how i feel ! rules are rules and if it doesnt suit me its my problem!

You have over a year to raise your fuel cell slightly and put an exhaust in. Even at 1 hour a night thats still almost 400 hours. Need longer?

HI just a question as im still building my car was planing to try and compete in bdc this year however costs ect have kept me from it.
Anyway to the point i have already had to cut my bulkhead and build new tunnel section for it and seeing the new rule has come in it will void my car for future use. So was just after the reason for the change. im guessing its safety however just would like to know. not trying to dispute the rule.
Just disappointing for me as time and money put it to building a car that i wont be able to use for its original intended purpose.

    thanks
    al

So that if a flywheel plate/engine part decides to come flying out of your transmission/engine, you don't get your legs/face severed.

thanks for the quick reply i know it wouldn't help about exploding engines but what about running a scatter shield for the transmission purposes
    thanks al

Not for that reason, as if a flywheel/box blows up you still maybe losing your feet regardless.

I'd say its to stop people building bonkers specialised creations nothing like the road versions.
