they really are stunning, and that vivid too. oddly the males are the brighter of the sexes. mine is only about 2cm leg span at the moment and not showing adult colours
I'm guessing there brighter to show off to the females happens alot in nature with bright coloured males it's basically there chat up line lol
I dont know really, usually with spiders the males are a lot duller, especially pokies. check this video out to see pokie chat up lines:
The big one is the female, notice how the male is keeping his distance, they sometimes end up as dinner. The males also tend not to live long once they reach maturity, they just walk about looking for a female and wear themselves out doing so. The females are normally bigger, brighter and live longer so there better pets.
Aye, this. which is what makes P.metallica strange in that the males are brighter. some females of certain species can live 30+ years. Oldest on record is an L.paraybahna that lived an estimated 49 years. The males can theoretically live longer than they do, however the secondary sex organs on the pedipalps make it likely that any male molting after maturity will die in molt.

Hey, is there anyone who owns a bengal cat or a maine coon over there? i'm tempted in getting one and wants to know if it worth it (character wise)...
