My friend wants a diff for his 14a as with just shy of 400hp hes finding spinning one wheel up is annoying. he wants to spin 2 instead seriously though, hes not after drifting, he occasionally wants the car to go sideways for a bit of fun. what diff would you recomend for fast road use? and where to get from? from memory garage D do refurbished diffs for around 350.
i have a 2way, hes not after the way this behaves, when he drops gears he doesnt really want the back to start stepping out.
1.5 way should be perfect for him. TBH unless your alignment is shocking, you shouldnt be going sideways just by dropping gears, I suspect he's being a wuss
Locking? no no it will just slow down the faster moving wheel so it spins with the same pace as the other whee l.
If you grip with a 2-way under hard braking you need to heel and toe when changing down gears to stop the back end wanting to step out from deceleration. I havn't driven with a 1.5-way but as people are suggesting better suited for a fast road car and should only lock up under deceleration if your being silly and provoking the car to do it.
So your saying that cos a welder is always locked, you're always gonna slide? If you have a good suspension setup, alignment and tyres, a 2 way wont automatically turn the car into some kind of oversteering deathtrap.
Yes but how hard are you going to shift, if racing you always heel and toe anyways He wanted a car that drift sometimes and maybe go to grip events why whould he shift that hard will shiftlock even with a open diff.
ive just had the car aligned on saturday dude. when you drop gears fast with a 2way the back steps out. its nothing to do with alignment. thanks for the above views, il probs suggest a 1.5way then.
Have you looked into torsen diffs? I know they are not great for drifting but you can get power oversteer with them and they aren't as aggressive as plated diffs iirc quaife make them, if it was me I would probably phone a company that builds diffs explain what I want and my setup and see what they recommend as a diff change can transform the way a car drives and a company with a lot of experience will be able to give you good advice.
