As above, what are people using that get good MPG and are reliable?

I was thinking MK4 Golf, Audi A4 etc?

I can't bring myself to have a Passat, or a shitty Nissan. Has to be half presentable.

The Passat is so much comfier than the Golf tho, and much quieter inside.

Even with a poverty spec interior it's still like driving around a sofa.

I had a mk4 golf GT TDI 1.9. I had it remapped and it was comfortably doing 55/60mpg on a 20 ish mile trip

I know, I worked for VW and probably drove 1000 Passats, they're GREAT cars (the B5), I just can't bring myself to own one.

I was looking at the 1.9TDI Golf Mk4 but ended up with the passat due to a very good example being for sale 5 mins away. Ended up with a 1.8T and am amazed by the MPG if driven right. Still should have got a Diesel Golf though.

I would say get a golf, you will get good mpg but when you come to sell it, it will hold its value better then the passat

I'm worried about a Merc! Besides getting flagged down for a taxi every 5 minutes, what's the reliability like?

I have a C220 cdi coupe and the reliability is fab (2003 plate remapped and has about 72k) Touch wood no issues at all. my journey to work is 28 miles and I average 48 mpg. They don't hold their value as much though I dont think :S

Your gonna give up the group b ripper?

Is it worth considering a seat Leon diesel? Some of the higher spec ones are nice, reliable too.

Or (dare I say it) a skoda Octavia Diesel? Although I couldn't bear to have a skoda....

Or get what my brother just bought, Audi a6 2.5 tdi. His is a 53 plate, got Audi nav, full leather, really good sound system, xenons, heated seats etc. drives like your on a cloud, pretty torquey, smooth auto and only cost about 2k

ask jason about how good is TDI is

its had a pretty proffesional remap and a few tweeks and i literaly cannot put into words how much torque it has for what it is

its mind blowing, you can be doing about 20mph in 6th gear and put your foot down and get power, like anti lag!

leather interior etc is pretty comfy spec as well.

and you can easily get 45mpg even with normal driving.

it really was almost enough to make me buy one. but after a lot of careful measuring i worked out you can actually fit 2.7 more women into a skyline so it was a no brainer

Volvo s60 s80 or v70 d5? They'll do 45 round town and 55 on a run. Comfy and they go well and they'll do ultra mega space miles
