e36 solid differential bushings (how about just welding?)

e36 solid differential bushings (how to make them yourself?)

Hi guys my differentials bushings are shot and I need new ones. Now I know about Powerflex but I want to try solid bushings because it is more hardcore. However they are very expensive and because my car is a piece of shit I just want to know if it is possible to make my own solid bushings somehow? Or just weld pieces in to eliminate movement?

This is the kit I want to buy:
    Rear Differential Mounts - Turner Solid - E36, E36 M3 - Turner Motorsport

I wouldn't call that very expensive, seems not bad value to me.

It is very expensive once you consider shipping and taxes I have not seen a shop in Europe yet that sells them, and why buy these. I am pretty sure you can make the standard bushings solid.... I just do not know how...

Would fucked examples of these bushes be a cause of juddering and tramping when doing a standing/rolling burnout?

I've had people suggest that it's a symptom purely of having too much traction but i'm convinced it's something more.

Yes but it would also create a dull knocking noise from the rear.

Under what conditions? Accel, decel, cornering etc? I have a welded diff so diffle skiffle is normal but knocking?

You can hear it during the half part of the video. Also note that because of this all the bolts that go through the bushes loose there thread and can even break (this is a common problem described here: Loud THUD when shifting in EVERY gear!)

$140 plus shipping for two turned lumps of aluminium.

A meter worth of that bar (so probably 5 pairs of diff mounts to make) would be ~£60 to buy, then machinists time etc, but could definatly be made cheaper, especially when you consider that by the time they are shipped it will be nearer £120-140 with customs and shit.

Cheaper still if you get a batch made and sell them off.

    We have a winner.

Its what i'll be doing when I pull the subframe out of mine, already in talks with the machine shop as wanted him to make me some one offs (subframe bushes and diff mount bushes) but said he would have to buy the size round in minimum of meter lengths which OFC makes it expensive for me to just get my own ones made.

    Give me a month.

After 1 month we have a deal! You still need to ship them to the Netherlands tough, and please test fit them first lol.

Haha yeah, will be giving the diff and subframe to my machinist so he can work out how big they need to be, he can work out all the crush and shit required for them to fit properly and not fall out.

I have a lathe, a mill, a spare e36 diff and subframe in my garage at the moment; if you want me to have a crack at making some let me know. I wasn't planning on making any back plate bushes but was going to make a solid front mount for my car. I'm 1/2 way through some Porsche bits and a e36 quick shift at the moment but can put the shifter on hold as there's no rush for that

Ps.. Are you just talking about the diff mounts (x2) or subframe mounts?
