Hi all just purchased a 96 n plate e36 328 which has a LSD diff fitted. The thing is it locks and slides in 1st but won't do it in second. Does anyone know of problems with these diffs or can anyone recommend the best diff to use and weld up please. Thanks.

Normally they are crap in 1st and work ok 2nd and 3rd. Give it some proper manfoot.
If you want a welder though, then use a 325i one.

    BMW LSD's are wank.
    328 Diff's have shit ratio's.

Buy a 325 one and weld it or convert to small case.

No, 323s and 328s use the same spastic long ratio. 325 ratio is shorter.

So can you not drift effectively with the 2.93:1 ratio on the 328 LSD? Or do you just have to be a little more committed?

Tbh mate it does slide in first but as soon as you try second it doesn't want to know lol wont do it. Not for the lack of trying tho.

May seem daft but does diffs from other models eg e30 or e46 fit in the e36. And why are e36 325s pretty hard to find haha.

I'm so sorry if all this seems dumb but I'm still pretty new to the bmw and drift world and everyone has to start somewhere.

    Thanks.

Not too big but I have been told 190/50/15 or there abouts is great for the bm's. especially if you have a longer ratio diff. I have tried with 225 45 17 and its a no go but in 1st from a stop but the 205 50 15's I have spin up lovely.

have a look on ebay, i found a set of 15'' alloys all with 6mm for £50.

I use a 328 sport with LSD and it drifts fine in 2nd, was even using 3rd briefly at 'pod the other day. It takes a bit of going, and the balance does shift a little whilst the diff decides where and when to lock but it is usable if you can't be doing with a welder on the road.

I'm using 195/50 R15 tyres pumped up to around 44psi (when cold). It was a dry day Wednesday and it ran fine.
