once upon a time in the dirty south..... I bought this car blind while in Australia and had it stored up for my return.. I wanted to build something budget/ghetto spec This what I thought I bought... LOLS at rear ride height Hi there M50! And this was I actually got.. ERGUHHHH basically bent wheels, a steel, a dismantled mess of an engine bay a clean shell and not forgetting the usual box of bits but never mind.. i had also bought a complete non-vanous M50 engine box loom ecu ect so I got down and dirty, threw the old engine in the bin While in there i fitted a stock E36 rack with spacers and made the made steering linkage solid basically the old engine was bodged in there..."custom" sump, disgusting engine mounts ect but after 1 zillion trips to the bmw breakers for the proper bits and bobs needed the new M50 was in and running with no real hiccups as such. Well apart from a petrol tank full of old engine oil???? :/ mid way through shot also while in the w/shop .welded the diff up .engine birthday..(filters ect) .FIXED the ride height .fitted testosterone button .sleeper exhaust .solution to front drupe/spring dislodge Pictures after engine swap and the first drive .Bride zeta/ Sabelt s/wheel and a mirror that's way too big still solid rear beam and diff bushes to fit along with camber adjustment bolts for my crazy rear camber issues some finishing touches, also added an "IS" front splitter and this is pretty much how she sits today more updates to come....
its not a bodge, its mot passable! all it does it control the massive drupe e30's have. Not doing it is more of a bodge!
Just a quick update, solid subframe and diff bushes fitted... the old bushes were pretty mint, so i wasn't expecting much difference But OH MY, turns in so much better. Throttle response is a lot better too, down to not having the diff move up and down when you come on and off throttle. Transitions smoother, and just generally a lot smoother mid slide. On the flip side, dang the diff is noisy weeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee it was loud anyway, but now its mental, I quite like the sound atm, but I'm sure that will wear off! Also it gets about 3x as loud after skids but only for about 5 minuets then goes back to normal. Anyone had experience with this as I can't get my head round why this would happen, as its welded an all? Now going to focus at getting rid of my 1 zillion degrees of rear camber.
My e30 325 diff is fuckin loud too after I put solid diff bush in as well. Sound is usually the same hot or cold though
Photofuckit* upload your stuff onto facebook and copy the links from there man, soooo much easier and there's NEVER a bandwidth problem
Right a little update After hours of thought and planning I've changed my diff ratio from a 2.78 medium case to a 3.38 small case. The old diff had a ridiculous amount of backlash. Also made my 3rd soo long and I needed so much speed to try and use it in dry conditions. It was more like the average 4th. The new diff is mint, it was donated by a mate (cheers Ben) Its lush to have a such quite diff again, of course welded and painted a funky colour. Only had a chance to test it in the wet, but it rocks! Twas a mental night in fact, the car has so much grip ( I think form the amount of toe in and soft dampers?? ) even with 40psi in the rear it just gain up on everyone. Sup door action ahah Anyone got any experience with dialing out rear camber? eccentric bolts/bushes/cut arms what are people doing?
