Been trying to find a detailed build thread for a SR20 conversion in a rx7. Anybody know anywhere? Or possible any kits to save some fabrication work?

    Thanks.

Just out of curiosity why an sr20? With the Rex bay being so big a lot of people normally put an rb or 2jz lump in them, are there any benefits over the rb lump?

Weight distribution, keeping it mid engine.

Yeah guess it would help with the engine being further back, just thought though with an rb lump being just as easy / hard to fit you'd get a lot more potential out of it.

Im very surprised that you cant get sr20/rb mounts off the shelf.
Ive looked in to this before but im but off by the mounting part.

Exactly the weight and trying to maintain the 50/50. And cost if anything breaks. Yeah I have looked round for off the shelf mounts.

It's because it's not just mounts.

Everyone seems to forget it's the sump that gets in the way on most conversions, and the thing that (as proven with plenty of peoples sump chopping swaps like SR20 MX5s etc) ends up causing the engines to fuck up constantly due to oil issues/starvation.

Plenty of engines with the sump in the right place, and most have mount kits available. That's what I'd do.

The sump to rack and sub-frame will be your biggest issues.

I modified the bulkhead loads to retain the original rack position.

The best way is to keep the sump setup completely stock and make everything work around that.

i am mounting a 2 jz in my fd. and when the block is kept as close to firewall as possable the waight distribution is not majorly effected. rotary are not light. and the only over hang to frunt of car is minimal. and mounting with frunt facing sump was pritty ok

I've an SR20 in my RX8 and I'm mounting a RB25 in my RX7. I'd to use the RX7 steering rack in my RX8 but you wont have that issue so you will need engine and gearbox mounts, custom prop, exhaust system (on the other side), wiring and a custom diff brace.

From there it is up to you parts wise, sr20 engine, box, loom, uprate the clutch, intercooler, radiator, piping & mounts for both, uprate the fuel pump, nistune or apexi and so on...
