I disagree on the plastidip. I have been dipping cars including my own. If you use the cheap shit or wrong thinners then yes it can fuk your paint. I use the proper stuff with a 50/50 mix and have no issues If its taking ages to peel off in small bits then its to thin and needs more coats. I just did a 13 plate fiesta and everything that had to be peeled off was done in under 30min!
Do u have to inform DVLA about colour changes with wraps/ plastidip? Really want to do my company car, but can't if its going to cause that kind of agro.
that's very good to know, have recently done my wheels in plasti dip, just a cheap set of wheels so not bothered if they get damaged or anything, was thinking of doing it on the car as well, but will think again having read this.
Plasti dip is ok for wheels, my mate done his nearly a year ago and looks ok. I put lots of layers on my car and was far to thin to peel off, I had to use paint thinners etc to turn it back to a liquid and what a mess it made lol
cool, on the car I was planning on only using it for little touches here and there, like on the side skirts, mirror covers etc
Love the wrap on the Aston Martin!! what color is it?? Was thinking of giving it ago myself. Do you need any specialist tools?? or is it just a heat gun and squeegee thing??
Plasti-Dip will always look like plasti-dip BUT it's significantly cheaper than a wrap/paint and looks well as long as it's done right. People only struggle when the dip has been done poorly, not enough layers/poorly mixed and or applied. Get someone who knows what they're doing and you'll be fine. Aerosol's will not do the job. Bottom priced wraps will be the same price as a good plasti-dip. Good wraps are good. Cheap wraps are shit. Cheap wraps done by idiots will look crap and last 24 months max. If someone is offering a wrap for less than £700 for a small car question it! Similarly cheap paint will be obvious, £1000 should see you a decent enough job.
Car wrapping is quite interesting indeed but it wont be as good as painting the whole car. A plus with wrapping is that after a few years if you are sick of the colour of the wrap you can take it off and have another fresh new colour of paint underneath ( that is if you wrapped a new car ). Painting the car will turn out much glosier as a wrap would do. I like to polish my car and see how the colour returns and gets brighter but wrapping Always leaves a dull glow. Thats my opinion on wrapping
Nope you don't need to tell the dvla as dip is not a permanent colour change. As above if painted right with the proper stuff its fine. I just took the dip off my ctr and the paint was perfect Also to add as I did 7 thick layers that I was able to remove all the dip in one sheet off my bonnet in under 30 seconds!
I'm looking to wrap my MX5 hardtop soon, i have the vinyl and a heat gun but i seem to fail so hard when doing it, never get a smooth surface, any advice on techniques?
Blackskylinegt - the high gloss white is the first picture Skippy power - the colour of Aston Martin is black sparkle by Hexis Um pics of pearl white with blue tint hmmm not done full wrap on that colour yet as they bought out a new high gloss one but have pics of peices wrapped in it which i will upload Also about paint is higher gloss that is true a wrap will never beat a paint job BUT the new Arlington and avery supreme vinyl have such a high thick gloss material now i doubt you would notice the difference and spot if it was painted or wrapped.
